I have not played my best tennis: Novak Djokovic presents an unusual remark on his Italian Open performance
Top seed Novak Djokovic once again displayed his zeal and magnificent grit, as he aced the Italian Open 2020 crown. The Serb thundered past his Argentine opponent Diego Schwartzman squashing him in straight sets with a 7-5, 6-3 victory in the finals on Monday.
Djokovic looks forward to his second French Open crown
Bagging his 5th Italian Open title, the World No. 1 presented an unusual speech post his win. He confessed to not having been at his best through the tournament.
“I don’t want to sound arrogant, but I haven’t played my best tennis. I still have a few gears and I am going to need to get there in order to achieve a good result at the French Open 2020,” said the Top seed.
With a record of 31-1 for the year so far, Djokovic remains undefeated in essence, proving it to the world that he indeed stands No.1 in the sport. Next ahead of him, is the year’s last major, the French Open 2020 which kickstarts later this week.
Remarking on his next quest for the second French Open title, the Serb said, “The conditions in the Italian Open 2020 prepared me for what could come at the French Open 2020. I need to be physically ready and ready not to play on Chatrier every match.”
Being totally and completely in-form, the Top seed aims to win over his ultimate battle against the clay court legend, Rafael Nadal at Roland Garros and step ahead, winning his 18th Grand Slam.
