It’s safe to say that Rafael Nadal will feature in his last Olympics. He is in Paris and is set to play doubles matches with Carlos Alcaraz, who is enjoying great form this year, as it is evident from his two back-to-back Grand Slam trophies.
Though Nadal, with 22 major titles, has been dealing with a slump in form, he has faith in Alcaraz’s abilities. The 38-year-old admitted he was not able to practice with Alcaraz but wishes to play to his full potential.
We have not been able to prepare together, but we are confident that Carlos will be in great form and I hope to be at a high level, the level I need to perform both individually and collectively.Rafael Nadal told reporters
Nadal last played at Roland Garros and got knocked out of it for the fourth time in his career. In the first round itself, Nadal suffered the defeat, to Alexander Zverev, who then went on to reach the summit clash where Alcaraz denied him his first major title by beating him in five sets.
Pairing up with Rafael Nadal is a dream come true for Carlos Alcaraz in his first Olympics
Carlos Alcaraz will be making his debut in the Olympic Games, while Rafael Nadal will be featuring in it for the fourth time. Their goal, like many other athletes, is to win the gold, and for this, they will do everything they can to make their country proud.
There is no better way to debut at the Games than to debut in doubles with Rafa. We are going to give our best and, hopefully, we can make everyone enjoy it with a good game.Carlos Alcaraz told reporters
Nadal has the most excellent history on the Roland Garros courts, for he won a record 14 titles there. Although he had a disappointing campaign at the French Open this season, he showed a glimpse of his old self when he skipped Wimbledon to participate in the Nordea Open.
The 38-year-old played his first final on the ATP Tour since the 2022 French Open but unfortunately, he failed to win the match against Portugal’s Nuno Borges, who defeated the Spaniard in straight sets.
Nadal has won two Olympic gold medals, in the 2008 Beijing Olympics (singles) and in the 2016 Rio Games (doubles with Marc Lopez).
