Indian Olympian and athlete Anju Bobby George made a shocking revelation today on her Twitter handle stating that she achieved all her success with just one kidney. The long jumper who also took part in triple jump events secured bronze in the World Athletics Championship in Paris in 2003 which was and continues to remain India’s only medal in the event’s history.

Anju also won gold at the IAAF World Athletics Finals in Monaco in 2005. The now 43-year-old also took part in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens where she made a personal best jump of 6.83m but could only finish 5th. She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002 for her excellent achievements.

Anju Bobby George took to Twitter today to reveal to the world that she played throughout her career with just one kidney. She captioned an image of her performing a long jump, “Believe it or not, I’m one of the fortunate, among very few who reached the world top with a single KIDNEY, allergic with even a painkiller, with a dead takeoff leg.. Many limitations. still made it. Can we call, magic of a coach or his talent.”

Her Tweet went viral on social media and Sports Minister of India Kiren Rijiju replied to the post appreciating her and saying, “Anju, it’s your hard work, grit and determination to bring laurels for India supported by the dedicated coaches and the whole technical backup team. We are so proud of you being the only Indian so far to win a medal in the World Athletic Championship!”
