‘I think if we ever had a pure grappling match, I’d pretty handily submit Khabib’ says submission specialist Garry Tonon

Garry Tonon is one of the most renowned submission fighters in the world currently he is signed with One Championship. Tonon is the 5th ranked featherweight fighter in One Championship and he firmly believes that in a pure submission match he can defeat the undisputed UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.
In one of his latest interviews with Jits Magazine, Garry Tonon says, “I think if we ever had a pure grappling match, I’d pretty handily submit Khabib. The same way if I had a pure wrestling match against somebody who is an extremely dominant wrestler. More than likely, they would beat me. But it would still be a fun, cool experience either way.”
He also added that for his entire life he has been doing pure grappling matches and on the other hand Khabib is doing MMA. That’s why he can defeat Khabib easily in a grappling match. Tonon added, “In pure jiu-jitsu, it’s hard to believe that he’d be able to do anything other than maybe edge out a draw or something, depending on the ruleset.”
“ If it was submission only and there was no ref’s decision, maybe he could not get submitted. That would be the best hope that he would possibly have. I think it would be a very dominant performance on my part if I ever fought Khabib in a jiu-jitsu or submission grappling contest.”
Tonon is confident that he’ll make Khabib tap with his leg locks

Khabib Nurmagomedov is one of those fighters who have the strongest ground game in UFC with which he made players like Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier tap out. But Garry Tonon believes that leg locks are something that gives him an edge over Khabib.
Tonon revealed that the preparation for fights he has done in his life revolves around grappling and even though Khabib has a Sambo background still his leg locks is going to be a major weapon against “The Eagle” Khabib.
