UFC Middleweight champion, Israel Adesanya recently experienced something that he is not generally accustomed to, a loss. The fighter from Nigeria has had a commendable MMA career with no defeats until UFC 259 where he lost to UFC Light Heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz.

Even though it was a huge challenge to move up a weight class for the title challenge, Adesanya was confident and fought Jan. He lost via unanimous decision. Izzy’s coach Eugene Bareman has an optimistic reaction to The Last Stylebender’s first-ever loss.

Speaking to Submission Radio, Bareman emphasized the positive side of the loss and is excited to train with Israel very shortly. “We’ve learned a sh*t-ton. I don’t want to talk about too much what we’ve learned.”

Bareman talks about the tactical point of the game in the interview. “What we didn’t expect was Jan to be so standoffish,” Bareman said. “I think we’ll definitely chase Jan again. He’s a worthy opponent and he’s beaten us and he’s a worthy opponent. I can’t exactly predict the future, but we will definitely come hunting for the Polish power again.”

Coach says Israel Adesanya has “No excuses” for his defeat against Jan Blachowicz

Before the fight at UFC 259, Israel consecutively took part in title bouts and won all of them. His last 4 fights were wins against  Paulo Costa, Yoel Romero, Robert Whittaker, and Kelvin Gastelum. But Jan Blachowicz proved his caliber and showed why he’s the boss of the Light Heavyweight division.

Bareman in the interview said, “I think Israel performed well.”“Did he perform his best? No. But did he perform terribly? No. He just had a really good opponent in front of him and a really good team who had a good strategy and who had the right answers,” the coach continued.

“No excuses,” Bareman said. “I think the training camp went well, and the lead-up to the fight in fight week was brilliant. Nah, I don’t. There are no excuses here.”
