‘I want that title fight, I want it right away’ – The incoming TJ Dillashaw
TJ Dillashaw is only a few weeks away from returning to the UFC, after a USADA suspension of two years! But, the former bantamweight champion is hopeful of a title shot right away after suspension. He believes he can get his hands on the title by smashing the current champion Petr Yan.(given that he defeats Aljamain Sterling)
Speaking to Brett Okamoto of ESPN, TJ Dillashaw is sure that he will become a three-time bantamweight champion sooner than anyone thinks.
“You’ve got a guy in Petr Yan who beat someone for the belt that is 0-2 in the division” – TJ Dillashaw
TJ Dillashaw was quoted as saying, “I want that title fight, I want it right away. You’ve got a guy in Petr Yan who beat someone for the belt that is 0-2 in the division. Jose Aldo has two losses and you beat him for the title and you’re calling yourself a champion? To me you’re an interim champion. The weight class is f*cked up, it’s ready for me to come back. I’ll be a three-time bantamweight champion, that’s a guarantee, and it’s going to happen sooner than people think.” [via MMA Mania]
TJ Dillashaw last fought the now-retired Henry Cejudo, just before his suspension and eventually lost to him via TKO in the very first round. TJ getting the title shot right away might seem farfetched, but as earlier mentioned by TJ, even Petr Yan hasn’t the current champion hasn’t cemented his position as the holder; so, there is still a chance that the UFC might grant him a title shot or at least a matchup against a top ranked bantamweight.
It is to be noted that Petr Yan is set to defend his bantamweight title against Aljamain Sterling, early next year.
