Jake Paul - Khabib Nurmagomedov
Jake Paul is on a move to make an impact on MMA, quite possibly this year, just like he did for boxing last year. It wasn’t that long ago when Paul uploaded a video of himself throwing low kicks on a Muay Thai-Pad and the pros couldn’t have been any more impressed by his perfection of executing the kick.
It was then reported that PFL and Bellator MMA are frontrunners for signing in Paul for his stint in MMA. However, looking into this, “The Eagle” Khabib Nurmagomedov, former UFC Lightweight Champion who left the sport, only as a competitor to become a full-time promoter, opened his arms to welcome Paul into the former’s promotion, Eagle FC.
That’s when Paul sought an opportunity for himself in Khabib’s opportunity of having a big signing in Paul and therefore responded to Khabib’s greeting on Twitter saying “deal. only if I fight you first.” Khabib retired back in October 2020, having the last match of his career against Justin Gaethje to defend the UFC Lightweight Championship for the third time. The decision of retirement came as a result of the unfortunate demise of Khabib’s father and his long time coach, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov.

Paul came gave his take on his interest to fight Khabib on MMA Fighting‘s The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani. In a nearly 50-minute long interview, Paul came across as talking about many things including his future in boxing and MMA career, his past rival in Tommy Fury and his diss track on UFC President Dana White.
“I would fight Khabib, in MMA if they were to make that offer,” says Paul. “That would be like exciting, that would excite me. And especially if I have more time to train, that’d be a massive fight, like probably a million, 2 million PPV buys. All I have to do is work on my wrestling skills because I could outstrike him standing up.“
What do you make of Paul’s interest to fight Khabib? Considering the conditions in which Khabib retired, it’s certain he is not coming back to fight Paul and has rightfully no reason to do so. But still, what do you think of Paul’s chances against Khabib, do you think the former has any? Is Paul’s knockout power enough to stop Khabib “The Eagle” Nurmagomedov, possibly, the greatest lightweight of all time?
