This Saturday’s UFC Qatar co-main event features Belal Muhammad facing Ian Garry in a crucial welterweight matchup. Both fighters have traded constant trash talk for months, intensifying hostility and motivating them to push harder toward earning victory. Ahead of their anticipated clash, Muhammad has issued new accusations toward Garry, escalating tensions and adding intrigue to the matchup.

Garry believes defeating Belal Muhammad will elevate his position within the welterweight rankings and earn him a title shot. He has ambitious plans to end Islam Makhachev’s championship streak and claim the prestigious welterweight title for himself soon.

Garry also aims to defend the belt against Shavkat Rakhmonov and avenge his previous loss by proving improvements in skill. In a recent interview, Muhammad was asked about Garry’s ambitious roadmap and the fighter who took this opportunity to mock the Irishman.

He’s good at reading scripts. His writer, his wife, they’re all writing stuff down for him to say, so he’s good at reading it.

Garry’s wife, Layla Anna-Lee, is a media personality who once wrote an infamous lifestyle book that sparked notable backlash. The book, often mentioned online under the title “How to Be a WAG”, drew heavy criticism for its tone and messaging. Many readers claimed it promoted outdated stereotypes about women in relationships with athletes.

The controversy resurfaced during Garry’s rise in the UFC, with critics frequently referencing the book whenever discussing the couple’s public image. Their relationship also suffered greatly as online rumours about Anna-Lee’s ex-husband circulated widely despite lacking any credible verification or support.

These unproven allegations spread rapidly through social media, shaping distorted narratives that influenced public perception without providing any factual foundation. This also promoted fighters such as Colby Covington, making fun of Garry, which resulted in a huge rivalry.

However, the Irishman has not let all this noise affect his performances and has beaten several skilled fighters. Against Muhammad, Garry plans to bring his ‘A Game’ and potentially get a finish in front of the Qatari crowd.

Kamaru Usman questions Belal Muhammad’s decision to fight Islam Makhachev

Belal Muhammad lost his welterweight title against Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315 and is determined to recover from defeat. He aims to defeat Ian Garry next and move closer to earning another opportunity to reclaim the championship belt.

A victory might set Muhammad up for a title clash with Islam Makhachev, once considered a training partner. Muhammad has long avoided fighting Makhachev because of his strong loyalty toward Khabib Nurmagomedov and their shared training history.

Still, circumstances have shifted recently, creating a realistic possibility that the anticipated matchup may finally materialise if results align well. Former champion Kamaru Usman recently talked about it and mocked Muhammad’s stance, calling it hypocritical.

If Belal is able to win [Ian Garry fight]. Now you want to challenge the man who you didn’t want to challenge you for the title? Are you as close as you say you are or you were just faking it just because you didn’t want to be challenged.

Usman is himself positioned as a potential challenger for Islam Makhachev, especially since the new champion has openly shown interest in facing him. Makhachev believes defeating Usman would begin his pursuit of breaking the former champion’s impressive title defense record within the welterweight division.

However, top contenders Belal Muhammad and Ian Garry strongly oppose this matchup, arguing that Usman does not deserve such an opportunity. This Saturday’s result will significantly influence the welterweight landscape, shaping future title shots and altering the division’s competitive direction.
