Ian Machado Garry’s relentless pursuit of a fight with Belal Muhammad appears to be bearing fruit. Although not in the manner or timing he might have anticipated. The former 170-pound king has other things in mind down the road and is thus not keen on it.
For the unversed, Garry was the PPV title fight backup in the UFC 315 main event for Muhammad vs. Jack Della Maddalena, which saw the Aussie grabbing the 170-pound crown. Moreover, the Irishman replaced Muhammad in what was meant to be his first title defense at UFC 310 against the division boogeyman, Shavkat Rakhmonov, and gave the undefeated Kazakh a run for his money.
And recently, Garry captured a dominating win against ‘The Fighting Nerds’ juggernaut, Carlos Prates, at UFC Kansas, and sent him packing. Now, ‘The Future’ wants to secure his fortune and the next No. 1 contender spot for the gold. Hence, the Irish fighter is calling his shots and wants to fight ‘Bully B’ on his home turf at UFC 319.
The PPV card is set for August 16, United Center in Chicago, Illinois, and will be headlined by Dricus Du Plessis and Khamzat Chimaev for the 185-pound crown. Naturally, Garry takes umbrage that Muhammad isn’t all that much interested.
Belal Muhammad is continuing to call out Kamaru Usman……Usman has said himself that he’s not fighting any time soon. So why does he keep calling him out? Because he’s avoiding me…He’s now started to mention Sean Brady’s name again, a man who he’s already knocked out. Imagine calling out someone you’ve already knocked out!

The Irishman also talked about Muhammad’s UFC 315 loss to Della Maddalena. He said that if ‘Bully B’ had managed to beat the Aussie and retain his gold, ‘The Future’ would have naturally been the No. 1 contender for the strap.
[Now] here’s the truth. Had Belal beat JDM, he’d be fighting me in his hometown of Chicago…So do the right thing. Don’t let your hometown down and accept the fight in Chicago. I’ll see you soon.

On the other hand, Muhammad wants a legacy name. And who better than former champ and heavy-hitter Kamaru Usman? It could be a former champ vs. champ PPV bout and make all the sense given their recent friction. Things get even more interesting owing to Usman and Muhammad’s infamous brawl on ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’s’ podcast. Moreover, Usman recently made his return at UFC Atlanta and beat Joaquin Buckley after a three-year layoff.
It will ultimately fall on UFC Execs/matchmaker Mick Maynard to pick up on it, but ‘Remember the Name’ is doing his part to drive the matter home. Ian Garry, for his part, doesn’t like it. Hence, he wants to take the challenge to the Team Valle Flow Striking Chicago man in his own locale.

He also put Muhammad on full blast for calling out 170-pound challengers that he is already done with (#2 welterweight Sean Brady: one of his 2 TKO wins in the UFC). Before that, ‘Bully B’ worked through top contenders like Gilbert Burns, Stephen Thompson, Vicente Luque, and Demian Maia, and earned a title shot against Leon Edwards at UFC 304, from whom he won the belt.
‘Bully B’ boots Ian Garry challenge as mini-Conor McGregor
Muhammad would by any means fight long-time rival Kamaru Usman next instead of a name like Ian Garry. Garry’s prospects are bolstered by the ongoing injury of Shavkat Rakhmonov, which creates opportunities for several up-and-coming contenders.

The former 170-pound champion has already dumbed down the idea of fighting Garry, saying his backup bootleg role after UFC Kansas City headliner (UFC on ESPN 66) did not mean much. However, it was different this time around. ‘Bully B’ billed Garry just wanted to keep his name in the mix. The Irishman also drove the bargain, saying he is a better and more acute striker than the ‘sloppy’ Della Maddalena and Belal Muhammad.
That’s quite something, as Muhammad has recently fallen in love with his strike-heavy ‘Canelo Hands’ plan and went berserk against the Aussie in Montreal. Hence, Muhammad has now fired back on the series of commentary on his striking and the relentless callouts. Moreover, Garry’s connection to Irish compatriot Conor McGregor caught flak for it.
Ian Garry out here trying to do Conor cosplay with Dollar Tree trash talk, …Bro, your lines hit softer than your jab. You sound like a teenager who just discovered McGregor highlight reels. You wanna outbox me? Try out-talking me first without embarrassing yourself; Until then, go back to rehearsing in the mirror. Maybe one day, your trash talk will be as sharp as your barbers fade!

The Instagram post had the caption “See you in November, dork,” which could point towards the duo fighting at the PPV at Madison Square Garden. What’s even more funny is that Muhammad was dissing Garry by reading off a list or a prompter, and considering how he posted the answer from ChatGPT, it turns out he was!
He screen-shot a snap of asking ChatGPT how to trash-talk Ian Garry and read the whole transcript! ‘Bully B’ and ChatGPT diss skills – 1; Garry and his chances at UFC gold – 0, for now.
