It was drama of the highest order in Kingstown as Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh to eliminate them from the tournament alongside giants of the sport in the form of Australia.
However, there was a point in time when the rains threatened to wash away the game and with more than limited overs bowled, the DLS method was invoked. At that point in time, if the game had stopped, then Bangladesh would have fallen short of the DLS total by two runs. That was exactly when the drama which is talked about extensively about Gulbadin Naib kicked off.
Once the game restarted, Afghanistan bagged a thrilling victory by snuffing out the remainder of the Bangladeshi resistance. At the end of the game, it was Ian Smith who was on the microphone and alongside him calling a historic moment in sport, he took a sly dig at Naib.
I've a dodgy knee for the last 6 months, I am gonna see Gulbadin Naib's doctor straight after the game. He's the 8th wonder of the world right now.Ian Smith said on the microphone
Just to put the comment into a bit of context, Naib was seen clutching onto his hamstring when the head coach of Afghanistan, Jonathan Trott said things to be taken slow. There were a lot of ways which could have been deployed to kill time, out of which changing field was the first. However, Naib went down showing that he was in immense pain and eventually providing the fans with so much to talk about.
Why isn’t the move of Gulbadin Naib exactly criticized despite people pointing out that as acting?
But then the rain break wasn’t the ending of the game and as soon as play started, Naib was seen coming out in the middle after an over and he also bowled normally claiming the all-important wicket of Tanim Hasan Sakib. The sudden resurgence in Naib’s health left the world amused. The reason why the move was just thrown into the humorous pit is because the match went on after play resumed.
Smith who has been one of the greatest callers in the history of sports broadcast, pointed out that there was something amiss. However, he didn’t want to spoil the fun, particularly after such a high-voltage moment. Also, had the move been the last of the match, then it would have been highly talked about and may have been criticized as well. But since the game went on, fans and experts picked only the humorous side of the incident.
