After winning the ICC World Cup Qualifier in 2023, Sri Lanka qualified for the 2023 ICC ODI World Cup. They reached the finals of the 2023 Asia Cup as well, but gave one of their worst batting performances in the final where they were bowled out for 50 by India.
The Sri Lankan team has won the ODI World Cup before, in 1996 and are also joint winners of the 2002 Champions trophy with India. They also won the 2014 ICC T20 World Cup by beating India in the finals.
The Sri Lankan cricket team will play their first match of the tournament on 7th October, when they face South Africa in Delhi. They will travel across various cities to compete with their nine competitors in the World Cup.
