ICC T20I Rankings: Virat Kohli climbs to number 5 in the batsmen’s rankings

Virat Kohli

Indian skipper Virat Kohli has reclaimed his position in the top 5 of the batsmen’s ICC T20I Rankings after two scintillating knocks in the ongoing T20I series against England. In the second T20I, Kohli led his side to victory with an unbeaten 73 that saw him ace a tricky chase of 165. In the third T20I, he scored an unbeaten 77 that came in a losing cause as England chased down the target of 157 set by India.

With two more matches to go, Kohli would want to keep up his good form and hope that the other batsmen follow suit as well. The batting has looked a worry in the series so far having failed with the exception of one batsman waging a lone battle in each of the two matches that India lost (it was Shreyas Iyer in the first).

Virat Kohli is a part of the top 5 in all formats

Virat Kohli is now a part of the top 5 of the ICC Batsmen’s Rankings across all three formats. No other player at present is a part of the same. Kohli is No. 1 in ODIs and No. 5 in Tests. Meanwhile, Jos Buttler who scored a match-winning 83* yesterday has climbed from the 24th spot to the 19th spot. He is now only two spots short of what is his best-ever position (17th achieved in 2018).

Jonny Bairstow who scored 40* yesterday has climbed from 16th to occupy the 14th spot. England’s No. 3 batsman Dawid Malan continues to occupy the first position and is followed by Aaron Finch and Babar Azam. KL Rahul has slipped from 2nd to 4th after his string of failures in the ongoing series that has seen him return scores of 0, 1 and 0. There is no other Indian batsman in the top 10.
