The former UFC Middleweight interim champion Kelvin Gastelum was having a bad skid in UFC since he lost the interim title to Israel Adesanya. After that loss, he lost two more fights against Darren Till and Jack Hermansson.
But he is glad that he came back again into the win column with his latest win against Ian Heinisch at UFC 258. Talking about this in the post-UFC 258 press conference, Gastelum says,
“I thought it was decent, I did enough to get the win, but I don’t think it was anything special. … always expect more from me because I know what I bring to the table. I know my skills. I know what I can do.”
“I didn’t even want to think about it because I knew the tears would come dropping, I don’t even want to think about it. I don’t want to get too deep into it. I’m just thankful that I got the win. I got my hand raised.”
“I’m thankful for my team. I’m thankful for everybody that’s gotten me to this point.”
Kelvin Gastelum is ready to step in Costa vs Whittaker
The winner of Ultimate fighter 17 Kelvin Gastelum slipped to number 9 in the middleweight rankings due to his recent losses. But he is still hopeful this victory will help him to move forward.
Gastelum is even ready to step in the fight of Paulo Costa vs Robert Whittaker if this fight falls out. Gastelum added, “I’ll have to go back and talk to my team, talk to my management, talk to Dana, and see what the options are from here,”
“I did mention if anyone steps out in the Robert Whittaker-Paulo Costa fight, I’d be willing to step up if something happens to either one of those fighters.”
