Canelo Alvarez proved why is the best in business when he beat Callum Smith via unanimous decision – a match that saw Canelo win the Won WBA (Super), The Ring, and vacant WBC super middleweight titles. At the Alamodome in San Antonio, in front of 15000 fans, Canelo Alvarez inflicted upon Callum Smith, the first loss of his glorious professional boxing career.

Speaking at the post-fight interview, Canelo said (via interpreter), “I’m the best in the world. In the first round, I tried to see what he brings, the skills or whatever, but like you can see, I showed what I am.”

Canelo also exclaimed that he doesn’t run from anybody, and if Gennady Golovkin (his nemesis with whom he has already fought twice) was up for it – he would be ready.

Canelo’s opponent Callum Smith (who was much taller than Canelo) too had words of praise for the Mexican. Speaking at the post fight conference he said, “He was the better fighter tonight. He’s smart. He’s clever. He sets you little traps and keeps you thinking. Before you know it, he’s closing the ground. He’s a good fighter, but I’m just a little disappointed with myself. His jab was really good. It surprised me a little bit. His defense was really good.”

Hinting that he was down for whatever and even ready for a trilogy fight with Gennady Golovkin, Canelo said, “I don’t run from nobody. I just showed that I fought against the best. If he’s going to take the fight, I’ll take it. But I just showed I fight against the best.”

Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin have fought twice before – the first one ending in a draw and the second one saw Canelo edge out Golovkin via. majority decision. So, a trilogy would be an absolute cracker of a contest. Who do you think will win, if at all there was a trilogy fight?
