“If your knees are bad don’t fight”- Julianna Pena responds to Amanda Nunes’ shocking injury revelation
Julianna Pena
UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion Julianna Pena is scheduled for a rematch against Amanda Nunes after her upsetting victory over the latter back in December 2021 when Pena choked Nunes out in the second sound of the co-main event of UFC 269. We witnessed arguably the greatest upset in the combat sports industry.
In the due course of time, Nunes has left her long time gym American Top Team to start her own gym and adding to this, before they go for a rematch, Pena and Nunes will coach against each other in The Ultimate Fighter Season 30. For the record, Pena was the winner of the Season 18 of the popular UFC produced reality TV show.
Julianna Pena knows what it feels like to be in Amanda Nunes’ shoes
Right after her facing off with Nunes for TUF:30, Pena gave an interview to ESPN Correspondent Brett Okamoto and talked about what she made of Nunes’ knee injury prior to UFC 269. “It’s a tough situation for me to hear that [Nunes’ health condition prior to UFC 269] because I’ve torn both of my knees out, I have come back from two devastating knee injuries in one regard, I hear you girl, I feel you, I 100% know exactly what you’re feeling like you know,“ says Pena.
“I have had that time off to reconstruct my knees and to build them back and to still be competing at the highest level that there is, so my knees are not an excuse for me to say you know I shouldn’t have shown up to the fight. If your knees are bad, don’t fight,“ said Pena.
What do you make of Pena firing back at Nunes for not resolving the situation properly? Do you think she is right? Where do you put Pena’s upsetting victory over Nunes amongst the greatest upsets in MMA history? Are you in for the rematch, who do you have it winning?
