Iga Swiatek is chasing her second title of the season at the Canadian Open. She kick-started her campaign on the North American hard-court swing after ending her title drought at Wimbledon, where he emerged victorious with a 6-0, 6-0 scoreline against Amanda Anisimova.
Before Wimbledon, she had reached her career’s first grass-court final at the Bad Hamburg Open but couldn’t cross the final hurdle in the form of World No.4 Jessica Pegula. In Montreal, following her third-round win over Eva Lys, the Pole said at the press conference that she won’t have a problem with not winning any title in a season if she lifts a Grand Slam trophy when asked about her Wimbledon triumph after trophyless campaigns.
Well, the first part, for sure, it’s kind of sad, but yeah, I would totally give one year of not winning any title for Wimbledon, for sure. Like, it’s a Slam. Even though I didn’t play any finals, except Bad Homburg, I still feel like I had good tournaments. You know, there was always something missing, like in the semifinal or something, but still, with the year that I had, in the case I feel like I did great anyway.
The Wimbledon was Swiatek’s first title of the season since the Roland Garros win last season. Since then, she struggled to reach a singles final until the Bad Homburg Open.
In Montreal, Swiatek’s next opponent is Clara Tauson, who went past Yuliia Starodubtseva in the previous round. The six-time Grand Slam champion has met the Dane thrice, winning all the matches. Their third encounter came in the fourth round of this Wimbledon.
Eva Lys sends a social media message to Iga Swiatek after Canadian Open exit
Iga Swiatek met Eva Lys for the third time in her career. They first met in the fourth round of the 2022 Stuttgart Open, which Swiatek won.

This year, the German ace reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time at the Australian Open, but her campaign was ended by Swiatek in straight sets. As Swiatek once again became the reason behind the 23-year-old’s exit, she took to Instagram to joke about it.
Iga Swiatek, always ending my good runs lol. Tried my best, came a little closer this time. We appreciate the small steps. Biggest thank you to the amazing fans in Montreal, you made me feel loved. Until next year.

Lys has not yet lifted a title in her career, whereas Swiatek is chasing her career’s 24th trophy. In Montreal, Swiatek has never played the final, and produced her best when she reached the semifinals in 2023. She had skipped the tournament last year.
Swiatek hasn’t yet lifted a title in the two WTA 1000 North American hard-court tournaments before the US Open. In Cincinnati, too, she has not yet progressed to the final.
Iga Swiatek is inching closer to removing Coco Gauff on the rankings table
Now that Coco Gauff got knocked out of the Canadian Open, it has given a golden opportunity to Swiatek to remove her from the second spot on the rankings table. The American ace succumbed to a straight-set defeat against Victoria Mboko in the fourth round of the Montreal 1000 event.

At present, she has 7789 points, while third-placed Swiatek has 6933. If the 24-year-old reaches the quarterfinals, she will have 7028 points, and 7813 points if she ends the Canadian Open in her favor. But Swiatek will need more tournaments to dethrone World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka and reclaim her spot. The Belarusian ace sits comfortably on the top with 12225 points.
