World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has announced Wim Fissette as her new head coach, two weeks after ending her three-year association with Tomasz Wiktorowski. Swiatek shared the news through a social media post on Thursday (October 17).
Swiatek said that onboarding Fissette as her head coach is a part of her ‘marathon, not a sprint’ approach. The 23-year-old, in the first week of October, had announced that she was parting ways with Wiktorowski. She has since been temporarily training with Dawid Celt.
Swiatek has now confirmed her new partnership with Fissette, who recently lost his job as Naomi Osaka‘s coach.
Fissette most recently worked with Osaka. The two parted ways following the Japanese ace’s underwhelming performance at the 2024 US Open.
The duo worked for four years in total, with Osaka winning two Grand Slam titles under Fissette’s guidance. The Belgian tennis coach also briefly worked with Qinwen Zheng when Osaka took some time off from the WTA Tour. However, the partnership ended abruptly.

The five-time Grand Slam champion is believed to have ended her partnership with Tomasz Wiktorowski over her problems on the hard court. Swiatek has won only one Grand Slam title on the hard court while she has won four on clay. At the 2024 US Open, her struggles continued as she bowed out after a defeat in the quarterfinals.
Since then, the Polish ace has not played in any tournament and has lost crucial ranking points. Now, with the WTA Finals crown on the line, Swiatek will seek necessary guidance from Fissette.
