Iga Swiatek‘s run at Wimbledon ended in a disappointing fashion. Dealing with the pressure of being the defending champion, Swiatek started crying after her tough first-round win over Taylor Townsend.
Although she easily beat fellow former World No.1 Karolina Pliskova next, Swiatek crashed out with a straight-set defeat at the hands of Alexandra Eala in the third round, and this made the Filipino the first player from her country to reach the fourth round of a Major in the Open Era.
Swiatek once again lost a tournament before reaching the final this season. The Pole, in fact, has so far advanced to just one semifinal this season (at the Italian Open). Reacting to her slump in form, Boris Becker said that something needs to change for her to regain it.
I’m thinking about who disappointed [at Wimbledon]; if we’re saying who should have actually gone further, among the women, I would say Iga Swiatek, because I’ve seen her play significantly better. She needs to figure out where she stands now. As a Wimbledon winner and a former World No.1, it’s just not good enough anymore. Something needs to change there.
Boris Becker said on the Becker Petkovic podcast
Before Wimbledon, Swiatek suffered an opening-round exit at the Bad Homburg Open, where she finished as the runner-up last year. It was also the second time this season Swiatek lost in the opening round of a tournament after the Miami Open.
I don’t know her in detail. She always has new coaches by her side, new styles of play, her psychologist is still with her…it’s good to pull the plug and really think everything over. She is a young woman, only in the middle of her career — far from over — but something needs to change dramatically for her to get back on her winning track. That’s my opinion because women’s tennis hasn’t changed that much since she was winning big tournaments.
Boris Becker added
Because of her failed title defense at the All England Club, the former WTA No.1 has dropped to the No.8 position in the rankings table. She will next be competing at the Canadian Open.
Agnieszka Radwanska says Iga Swiatek can get back to her best
The last time Iga Swiatek won a singles title was at the 2025 Korea Open. She won four finals last year, lifting titles at Wimbledon, Cincinnati, and Seoul.

The six-time Grand Slam champion is a one-time semifinalist at the Canadian Open and lost in the fourth round last year. Amid her form issues, Agnieszka Radwanska said her countrywoman has it in her to get back to playing great tennis.
She can still play great tennis, and I think she’s still showing that on court. But now, the problem is, it’s a lot of ups and downs during the match, and obviously, when you’re on the top and you want to win tournaments, those ups and downs can be only for a little bit. You cannot lose a couple of games just like that, not being there mentally. I think if she’s gonna get there — and I think she will — we’re gonna see her winning titles, for sure.
Agnieszka Radwanska told Tennis365
Swiatek, after her opening-round exit in Miami, parted ways with Wim Fissette and hired Rafael Nadal‘s former coach, Francisco Roig, before the clay swing. Because of the partnership, many thought Swiatek would end her title drought on the clay swing.
The last time Swiatek reached the final on clay was at the 2024 French Open, and beat Jasmine Paolini to complete a hat-trick of the clay-court Major. Last year at the French Open, the 25-year-old suffered a three-set upset at the hands of eventual runner-up Aryna Sabalenka in the semifinals.
