Iga Swiatek is enjoying nothing but good form in the past few days. She lifted the Cincinnati Masters title on Monday by beating Jasmine Paolini, and show great resilience by winning two more matches with Casper Ruud in the US Open mixed doubles the following day.

She reached her hotel in New York 12 hours before playing home favorites Madison Keys and Frances Tiafoe in the mixed doubles first round. The Pole and the Norwegian aces beat the American pair with a 4-1, 4-2 scoreline.

Later in the quarterfinal, they knocked out Caty McNally and Lorenzo Musetti. After this match, Swiatek and Ruud were asked during their on-court interview who reached out first for the partnership.

I had in mind that maybe Iga wanted to play, I’d be down. Then she actually shot me a text and asked if I wanted to play.

But Swiatek was taken aback by the answer, and she quickly said, “What? No. You texted me.” Ruud argued, “No. You texted me, I think.” Then the six-time Grand Slam champion shared a story in her attempt to try to convince all that it was Ruud who messaged her.

That’s not possible because when your agent asked my agent, I think, or you asked me, I had no idea what I’m signing up for. I was like, yeah, okay, I want to play with Casper. But I didn’t know what the tournament is going to look like, so it must’ve been you.

Ruud and Swiatek, the third seeds, will be up against the first seeds- Jessica Pegula and Jack Draper, who knocked out Russia’s Mirra Andreeva and Daniil Medvedev. If Swiatek and Ruud secure the win, they will lock horns with the American pair of Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison or the Italian pair of Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori.

Andy Roddick calls Jasmine Paolini a complete player after her defeat to Iga Swiatek in Cincinnati

According to Andy Roddick, Jasmine Paolini is the most complete player on the women’s tour at the moment. Following her match against Iga Swiatek in the Cincinnati Masters final, Roddick couldn’t stop lauding Paolini’s fighting spirit on his Served podcast.

I love Paolini. She is such a complete player. I am going to say something, and everyone is going to go crazy, but just give me some time to breathe after I say it. She might be the most complete player in the women’s game.

Paolini lost to Swiatek for the sixth consecutive time. Had she won, it would have been her third WTA 1000 title as well as her second title of the season after her Italian Open win (beat Coco Gauff). Like Swiatek, the 29-year-old was also scheduled to play the mixed doubles, with Lorenzo Musetti, but she chose to skip it to prioritize rest before her singles campaign at the US Open.

You can’t solve her serving 82mph sometimes against Swiatek. She will get overpowered sometimes but man, she might not be tall in stature but she is tall in heart and fight and she is tall in watchability. I will tell you that much right now. She is a dream to watch.

Andy Roddick added

In the US Open singles, Paolini’s best campaign came last year when she reached the fourth round. The two-time Grand Slam singles finalist has one doubles title in Majors- this year’s French Open, which she lifted alongside compatriot Sara Errani. Swiatek captured the US Open in 2022 by beating Ons Jabeur. But last year, her campaign ended in the quarterfinals. Swiatek will also be chasing her third title of the season after her wins at Wimbledon and Cincinnati.
