In Short
  • Iga Swiatek reached her 250th week in the WTA Top 10, marking a significant milestone in her career.
  • She compared fellow player Karolina Muchova to Roger Federer, praising her style and artistry.
  • Swiatek has held the world No. 1 ranking for 125 weeks and continues to dominate the women's tennis scene.

Iga Swiatek is built different. That’s not hype, that’s just math. The 24-year-old Polish superstar quietly hit one of the most staggering milestones in recent tennis history this week at Indian Wells, entering her 250th career week inside the WTA Top 10.

Consecutive domination so relentless it barely made a ripple, because at this point, the fans have grown used to Swiatek simply being there at the top, every week, every tournament, every season.

But the milestone wasn’t even the most interesting thing she did this week. That honor goes to something she said in a pre-tournament interview, when the Polish star casually dropped a Roger Federer comparison that set the tennis world on fire.

I don’t want to expect anything based solely on the head-to-head record. I can remember matches where I was down a break in the third set. She’s an incredible player. She’s like the Roger Federer of women’s tennis.

Asked which player on the WTA tour she admires most for their style and artistry, Swiatek didn’t hesitate. She pointed to fellow WTA star Karolina Muchova, praising her elegance, consistency, and what she described as an almost artistic quality that elevates the sport beyond mere winning.

The numbers behind the latest Iga Swiatek milestone

To understand just how extraordinary 250 weeks in the Top 10 is for someone of Iga Swiatek‘s age, the fans need a little context.

She first cracked the Top 10 back in May 2021 following her title run in Rome. From that moment on, she barely blinked. Of those 250 weeks, 195 were spent inside the Top 2. She held the world No. 1 ranking for 125 of them. In only two weeks across that entire stretch, she slipped outside the Top 10, and both times she came roaring straight back.

Her rise began with a stunning Roland Garros title in 2020, which she claimed as a teenager. What followed was a run of Grand Slam victories and ranking dominance that had broadcasters and former champions reaching for historical comparisons.

The names that kept coming up are Steffi Graf, Martina Navratilova, and Serena Williams. Those are rare skies to occupy. Swiatek seems perfectly comfortable up there.

Indian Wells and what comes next

At Indian Wells 2026, Iga Swiatek’s campaign continues. She’s set to face Karolina Muchova in the fourth round. Muchova is the kind of creative, unpredictable ball-striker who can trouble anyone on any surface. It’ll be a genuine test.

Her ranking, however, is rock solid. There’s no realistic scenario where she drops outside the Top 5, and barring injury, she’ll keep climbing toward records that may never be broken.

Social media lit up after the milestone was confirmed, with fans calling her the “future GOAT” and debating whether she’s already crossed that threshold.

The Federer comment only added fuel. Suddenly, everyone had an opinion on which WTA player deserves that kind of comparison, and whether it’s premature, perfect, or simply the most interesting thing anyone has said about women’s tennis in months.
