World No. 1 Iga Swiatek cruised past Diane Parry in the second round of the 2024 Paris Olympics to extend her win streak at Roland Garros to 23 matches. She continued her exquisite form from her last match to advance to the third round at the Games.
The No.1 seed was fresh from a victory against Romania’s Irina-Camelia Begu to whom she struggled a bit in the second set. Despite a bagel first set, Swiatek struggled to close out that match. However, she had done her homework on Parry and did not repeat the same.
Diane Parry, on the other hand, was on her Olympic debut. She beat Nadia Podoroska in the first round before trying to repeat the same against Swiatek, who was on top of her the whole match. After a nervy start to the match, Swiatek managed to keep her faults to a minimum and dominated Parry.
She was pretty much faultless throughout the match and didn’t take long to register a 6-1, 6-1 win. At one point, she was on a nine-game streak against the Frenchwoman, who denied her the tenth one. Parry had helped with the win, giving Swiatek 24 unforced errors to only eight winners in the match.
This was Swiatek’s 49th win of 2024 and she only hopes to add to that at the Games. The draw gets challenging for the Pole, who might even face her ‘kryptonite’ Elena Rybakina in the further rounds. Both the top stars are placed in the same draw and Rybakina is the only woman currently to beat Swiatek on clay.
Iga Swiatek hopes to add to her Olympics dream as she advanced to the third round at the Paris Olympics
Iga Swiatek continues to dominate her opponents at the Paris Olympics. The Pole was pretty much faultless in her straight-sets win against Diane Parry. She registered 15 winners and won a total of 61 points in the match.
No current WTA player has had so much success on clay as Swiatek did. She is a four-time French Open winner and is back to try to win a medal for her country. An incredible opportunity for her to shine on her favorite surface as she enters the third round of the Games.
She wasn’t the only woman to win this year as other in-form players continued to advance. Jasmine Paolini, the finalist of both the French Open and Wimbledon, continues her purple patch this year while American No.1 Coco Gauff also won her previous match.
