World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has been the benchmark of women’s tennis for the past 12 months. She has been the top-ranked WTA player for 119 of the last 127 weeks.
To maintain consistency throughout the year, she has worked extremely hard and cultivated a strong team environment around her. Swiatek has emphasized the importance of evolution in a tennis player, as she revealed during her press conferences at the US Open.
I think, like, 2023 was challenging because I had a target on my back and also players actually learned my game style, so I think you always need to, yeah, learn and try to have more variety and many options on the court, because it's not like you can keep playing the same tennis. People will figure it out, and it's going to be much harder to win.Iga Swiatek said in her US Open press conference
Swiatek has won five titles in 2024, including the Roland Garros title. She has also won three Masters 1000 titles this season at Indian Wells, Madrid, and Rome, respectively.
So, yeah, I think in these terms rather than if I'm getting, you know, if tennis is getting overall better and better, because it's hard for me to judge. But I think, yeah, you need to kind of mix up your game, because at the beginning, you might be there for a while, but then everybody will analyze you and focus on how to win against you.Iga Swiatek added
In addition, Swiatek won her first Olympic Singles medal at the Paris Olympics. She secured the bronze medal by defeating Anna Karolina Schmiedlova in straight sets.
Iga Swiatek hopes to end her Grand Slam drought outside Roland Garros
Top seed Iga Swiatek is bidding to win her sixth Grand Slam at this year’s US Open. The Pole has won four Roland Garros titles, including three consecutive titles from 2022 to 2024.

Swiatek won at Flushing Meadows in 2022, which remains her only Grand Slam title outside Paris. Although her achievements at the French Open have been sensational, many tennis pundits have started calling the World No. 1 a ‘one-surface wonder.’
Swiatek would have loved to defy that reputation at the Paris Olympics, where she fell short of the Olympic Singles Gold Medal. The 23-year-old lost to Qinwen Zheng in the semifinals. However, Swiatek hopes to find success outside of clay as well. The right-hander won Indian Wells this year but only reached the third round of both the Australian Open and Wimbledon.
