- Tomasz Swiatek criticized a podcast discussing his daughter Iga's close relationship with psychologist Daria Abramowicz.
- Iga Swiatek has lost two quarterfinal matches this year and withdrew from the Dubai Open.
- Andy Roddick defended Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka against criticism for their withdrawals from the Dubai Open.
Iga Swiatek‘s father, Tomasz Swiatek, was furious upon coming across a podcast that discussed the WTA tennis ace’s relationship with her psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, who has been a part of her entourage since 2019, when Swiatek was 17. While working with Abramowicz, Swiatek reached the top of the rankings table and won six Grand Slam titles.
These titles she won while working with coaches Piotr Sierzputowski, Tomasz Wiktorowski, and Wim Fissette, who is her current coach. Swiatek parted ways with Sierzputowski in 2021 and ended her partnership with Wiktorowski in 2024.
But Abramowicz is still a part of her team. Earlier in 2025, sports psychologist Dariusz Nowicki claimed that “certain boundaries” between Swiatek and Abramowicz were crossed. Swiatek is once again dealing with a slump. So while discussing her recent performance, her youth coach, Artur Szostaczko, on the Trzeci Serwis podcast, talked about Swiatek’s relationship with her psychologist.
I don’t know of any other case where a player spends day and night with a psychologist. They go on vacations together, to matches, and to the cinema. But if it suits Iga, I won’t discourage it. People need to understand that I can express my opinion or be a little surprised, but if it suits a player who is second in the world, and was first in the world, and has six Grand Slam titles under her belt, then what can we offer her or advise her?
Journalist Lechem Sidorem then pointed out that Swiatek did not take any help from Abramowicz at the Australian Open and the Qatar Open, saying the 24-year-old was a “bundle of nerves“. Swiatek’s father, Tomasz, who often travels with her daughter and Abramowicz, strongly reacted to the opinions expressed in the podcast.
What have you both achieved? Almost nothing, mind your own business. You don’t know (expletive), you sleep on your feet.

Swiatek has now lost two tournaments in the quarterfinal stage this year. After her defeat to eventual winner Elena Rybakina at the Australian Open, Swiatek, who was chasing her fourth title at the Qatar Open, suffered defeat at the hands of Maria Sakkari.
Andy Roddick defends Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka’s withdrawals from the Dubai Open
After her Qatar Open exit, Iga Swiatek deemed it best to withdraw from the Dubai Open. World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka skipped the WTA 1000 Middle East tournaments as she did not have many points to defend.

Their withdrawals were not taken well by Dubai Tennis Championships boss Salah Tahlak at all, as he suggested that players should be docked points for late withdrawals. But Andy Roddick came to Sabalenka and Swiatek’s defense and said on his Served podcast that Tahlak’s comments made no sense. He criticized the scheduling of two WTA 1000 tournaments in February right after a Grand Slam.
Can you imagine someone winning a play-off game and then someone taking it away somehow? He’s going to dock points from six months ago? How does that even work? Every point they have on their point total right now is earned because they have won matches, and now we are going to dock points? I don’t think that is very well thought out. That does not make sense to me.
WTA players have to feature in four Grand Slam events, 10 mandatory events, and six more events, as well as the WTA Finals if they qualify for it. Players receive zero points if they withdraw from the mandatory events.
Both Sabalenka and Swiatek are set to return at Indian Wells, where the former lost to Mirra Andreeva in the final last year. Swiatek lost to the Russian ace in the semifinals.
