Polish star Iga Swiatek shared a priceless reaction to Andy Murray‘s classic one-liner on X after the end of the 37-year-old’s career. Both tennis champions faced disappointments at the Paris Olympics, failing to secure an Olympic gold for their countries.
After the match, Murray shared a sarcastic tweet about not liking tennis. In response, Swiatek posted a Spiderman meme indicating that she felt the same way. This response came after Qinwen Zheng crushed the Pole’s gold medal hopes in the semifinals of the Paris Olympics.
Swiatek was present at Murray’s farewell ceremony at Wimbledon last month. The British star lost in the men’s doubles first round with his brother Jamie Murray.
Murray also competed in men’s doubles at the Paris Olympics with Dan Evans. He withdrew from the men’s singles draw after being unable to recover fully from the back injury he sustained at Queen’s Club.
Iga Swiatek secures bronze medal for Poland
Top seed Iga Swiatek from Poland won the bronze medal in women’s singles at the 2024 Paris Olympics. She defeated Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-2, 6-1 on Friday at Roland Garros. Swiatek is the first Polish tennis player to win an Olympic medal.
The match lasted just 59 minutes on Court Philippe Chatrier, where Swiatek has won four French Open titles in the past five years. The 23-year-old showed her skill and dominance once again at this familiar venue.
Schmiedlova had a great week despite not winning a medal. She beat two Top 10 players for the first time in her career. These victories included Wimbledon finalist Jasmine Paolini and champion Barbora Krejcikova.
Schmiedlova started strong, breaking Swiatek early for a 2-1 lead. But the Polish star quickly recovered and won six games in a row. She used her powerful forehand to control the match and secured the win, earning Poland’s first tennis medal.
