World No. 1 Iga Swiatek made history on Saturday by winning her fourth Roland Garros title. She won the final in one hour and eight minutes against 12th seed Jasmine Paolini with a 6-2, 6-1 scoreline.
During the trophy ceremony, tennis legends Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova were invited to hand over the trophy to the World No. 1. Despite the historic achievement, the emotion of the occasion was too much for Swiatek when the Polish national anthem started playing during the trophy ceremony.

The World No. 1 was seen fighting tears during the national anthem before thanking the crowd for supporting her in the past fortnight. With her latest victory at the French Open, Swiatek now boasts four majors in Paris and a total of five Grand Slam victories, including her win at the 2022 US Open.
Swiatek joins the ranks of Monica Seles and Justine Henin as one of the few players in the Open era, which commenced in 1968, to achieve a ‘three-peat’ in women’s singles. Additionally, she is the youngest player in the Open era to secure four Roland Garros crowns.
Lack of experience costs Jasmine Paolini in the Roland Garros final against Iga Swiatek
12th seed Jasmine Paolini‘s journey to her first Grand Slam final has marked the pinnacle of an impressive season, marked by numerous career highlights and a rise into the ranks of the world’s top 10 players.
Before the match, the odds of the 28-year-old pulling off an upset were around 11-1. Despite being the underdog, Paolini, buoyed by a supportive crowd, started the match with confidence.

The Italian showcased her strength with her forehand, breaking serve early on to take a 2-1 lead, surprising many in the stadium. However, Iga Swiatek quickly responded, breaking back to level the score. Paolini struggled to maintain her momentum, conceding another break to the World No.1 due to a double fault to make it 4-2. From there, Swiatek dominated the match.
The Italian found it difficult to handle the defending champion’s powerful shots, appearing overwhelmed by her opponent’s skill. Though she managed to get on the scoreboard in the second set, it was clear that Swiatek was in control.
Despite showing moments of defiance, Paolini ultimately knew the match was slipping away. Swiatek sealed the victory with a commanding performance, serving out the match emphatically.
