Iga Swiatek at Poland Open
Iga Swiatek is a professional tennis player who hails from Poland. She is currently ranked world No. 1 by the WTA. Swiatek’s performance on a clay court is astounding because she has won the French Open on two occasions in her career in 2020 and 2022. After winning her first major in 2020, she became the first player representing Poland to win a major singles title. She became the youngest singles champion at the French Open since Rafael Nadal in 2005 and the youngest women’s singles champion at a major since Maria Sharapova in 2004.
The 21-year-old is currently playing at her home tournament, Poland Open. In round 1, she faced her compatriot Magdalena Frech in the round of 32 where she defeated Frech in two straight sets by 6-1, 6-2 while defeating Gabriela Lee in the second round with a 6-3, 6-2 win over the Romanian.

Iga Swiatek has made her appearance on the list of elite WTA players
Swiatek’s win against Lee has now extended her winning streak to 18 on clay courts which has listed her among some elite names who have won most matches in a row on clay. Currently, Serena Williams tops the list with 28 wins, followed by the former WTA player Justine Henin with 27 wins, then the 5 times majors champion Maria Sharapova with 21, and on the fourth place features former World No. 1 Venus Williams with 19 matches in a row and finally on 5th, the most recent entrant, Iga Swiatek.
Among all the five names, Swiatek is the youngest player whereas the other four players are either retired or will be retired in a few years. This proves that the reigning French Open winner is following in the footsteps of the greatest players and will be challenging other records that are held by them.
World No.1 Iga will also be seen playing in the US Open which will begin on 29th August and conclude on 13th September. This year’s French Open champion Swiatek will look to have two majors on her name in a calendar year but this time the polish will ha tove proved herself on the hard court.
