Iga Swiatek and the tennis fraternity did not foresee that she would end her Olympic campaign in Paris without winning the gold. Several WTA stars did not feature in the Olympics, which was one of the reasons why she was considered the favorite.Β
That the matches were held at Roland Garros meant that Swiatek had the biggest chance of bagging the gold, because she is a four-time French Open champion and claimed the title earlier this season. In the semifinal, however, she was no match for China’s Qinwen Zheng who cruised past the Pole 6-2, 7-5 to reach her first final in the quadrennial event, where she came out on top of Croatia’s Donna Vekic to take home her first gold medal.Β
Swiatek, who in an interview admitted being confident of winning the elusive gold and the disappointment she suffered afterward, reflected on her campaign. She revealed in a post on X that she has been dealing with various emotions and will be introspecting more about this in the near future.
After a couple of days I feel ready to sum up this chapterβ¦Joy, happiness, sadness, disappointment, satisfaction, hunger for more, pride and so many other emotions, thoughtsβ¦I'm still figuring out and I feel how valuable this experience was to me. Maybe in the future I will assess these two weeks with a bigger picture and a better perspective, but I already see a lot.Iga Swiatek wrote on X

Iga Swiatek’s psychologist reveals how the Pole is handling her bronze medal victory
After her defeat to Qinwen Zheng in the semifinal, Iga Swiatek beat Anna Karolina Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-2, 6-1 to clinch the bronze medal. The 23-year-old’s psychologist, Daria Abramowicz, revealed how Swiatek is managing her emotions after the bronze medal win.

All emotions are allowed because there is no single rule. We look for patterns of how to react in different situations, sometimes forgetting that a given situation can mean something different to different people.Daria Abramowicz told Rzeczpospolita Sport
The bronze medal made Swiatek the first tennis player from Poland to win a medal in the Olympics. She was also set to play mixed doubles with Hubert Hurkacz, but his injury forced him to withdraw from the event. This was also Swiatek’s second appearance in the Games, having made her debut in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics where she lost the singles in the second round and the mixed doubles in the quarterfinals.
