World No.1 Iga Swiatek recently listed out three tennis giants who she would invite to a restaurant. Steffi Graf was her first name, followed by Maria Sharapova and her rival Serena Williams. Swiatek is starting to walk on the path of becoming a tennis great and hopes to invite them to a restaurant to spend some quality time. 

On Tuesday, the Polish champion started her Wimbledon journey with a straight-set victory over Sofia Kenin in the first round. Without much struggle, Swiatek cruised past her opponent 6-3, 6-4. After the match, there was the usual post-match conference where she listed out the three players she would invite.

For sure, Steffi Graf. I’d love to talk to her and meet her and share some experiences. Also, I think Maria Sharapova. We never really talked because she retired when I was still going up. And I feel like she made some good decisions off court in terms of her business and she handled everything well, so you can kind of take examples from her. And also Serena.

This was not the first time the Pole listed the names she wants to go out for dinner. After her semi-final win at the 2024 Indian Wells, Swiatek chose Steffi Graf as her ideal dinner partner and even gave a conversation idea to discuss with the WTA great. Swiatek expressed her desire to learn about Graf’s mentality and way of handling being the best player.

Iga Swiatek revealed to take inspiration from Steffi Graf’s mentality

After a massive first-round win, Iga Swiatek kept the fans interested by answering a few questions. Among them was her epic restaurant invite including tennis greats like Steffi Graf and Serena Williams.

Following up on that, she was asked what in Steffi Graf inspired her and if it was her forehand focus or discipline. Turns out that Swiatek took inspiration from her mentality but her reasoning was rather a bit comedic as she did not have points to compare the mentality. 

Her mentality. It’s hard for me to compare styles because obviously, we’re playing in different eras of tennis. It’s hard to find the same things.

The Pole ace has now advanced to the second round of SW19 and will take on Petra Martic for a place in the next round. Her draw will only get interesting from here with champion players still in the mix.
