Iga Swiatek lifted her first title of the season at Wimbledon by dismantling Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0. But the Pole has stated that she didn’t celebrate her victory properly due to the hectic schedule.

Swiatek is not at all a fan of the 11-month calendar and has often criticized the WTA for not giving players enough time to rest and recover. Due to the schedule, several top players have decided to skip the Canadian Open, including Aryna Sabalenka.

Swiatek, too, was expected to withdraw from the WTA 1000 event, but she chose to play. The six-time Grand Slam champion recently sat for an interview with Andy Roddick for his Served podcast. And there, along with several other topics, Swiatek said she couldn’t celebrate her Wimbledon triumph much because of the schedule.

I try to remind myself if I feel like I need to, yeah, celebrate a bit more and be proud of what I’m doing. But you don’t have much time to do that ‘cuz, as I said like, next week you have another challenge in tennis. It’s not like you have only like world championships, Olympics, and if you win that, you can kind of be happy for month or two. You just have to get back into it straight away.

Wimbledon was Swiatek’s first title since her victory at Roland Garros last year. Before the grass-court Major, the 24-year-old played the final of the Bad Homburg Open (her first final on grass) but couldn’t beat Jessica Pegula.

At the Canadian Open, Swiatek will kick-start her campaign against China’s Guo Hanyu, who knocked out Yulia Putintseva in straight sets. The reigning Wimbledon champion has never lifted the Montreal title, and produced her best when she reached the semifinals in 2023 (lost to eventual champion Pegula). She skipped the tournament last year.

Iga Swiatek reveals why she explained to the tennis community about her mental state during the Sunshine Doubles

Iga Swiatek had smashed a ball toward a ball kid, and this sparked controversy as she was accused of deliberately hitting the ball out of frustration. But Swiatek took to Instagram to explain that it was not the case. During the Served podcast, Swiatek recalled that time and explained that she thought she wouldn’t be facing many difficulties after perhaps the most controversial phase of her career- the doping scandal.

I came back on the court, and people did forgot that I had this kind of problem and they just thought that it’s going to be back to normal, back to winning everything. And honestly, I thought it as well at some point because I had this…I don’t know, perfect Instagram kind of vision that, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and this kind of blah, blah, blah, and yeah, it works sometimes.

What Swiatek rather felt was that the world was “attacking” her and was “destroying” her life. But eventually, Swiatek started to focus on herself and realized the problems she needed to overcome. At present, Swiatek doesn’t care about the doping saga as she is very happy with her Wimbledon trophy.

Swiatek had tested positive for trimetazidine in August last year and faced a one-month suspension. While serving her provisional suspension, she missed mandatory tournaments and ended up losing her No.1 ranking to Aryna Sabalenka.

After the Canadian Open, Swiatek will shift her focus toward the Cincinnati Masters, where she produced her best performance when she reached the semifinals in 2023 and 2024. In 2023, her campaign was ended by eventual champion Coco Gauff, while last year, eventual winner Sabalenka knocked her out.
