Top seed and defending champion Iga Swiatek made history on Saturday with complete domination over 12th seed Jasmine Paolini in the Roland Garros final. The Pole won 6-2, 6-1 in the title match to claim her fifth Grand Slam title.

Apart from the unbelievable records she has broken on the red dirt, she has also joined Serena Williams in one record category. According to the X account of the US Open, the Polish superstar became the first woman since the 23-time Grand Slam champion to win three consecutive titles in a single Grand Slam. As a sign of respect, Swiatek went to X and gave a one-word tribute to Williams. Many tennis fans are in awe of her for remembering the American on a day that was supposed to be hers.

Will Iga Swiatek dominate Roland Garros like Rafael Nadal?

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek claimed her fourth Roland Garros title after dispatching Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final. The Pole won in one hour and eight minutes.

Swiatek now joins the ranks of Monica Seles (1990-92) and Justine Henin (2005-07) as a three-time consecutive French Open champion. At just 23 years old, she is only three titles away from matching Chris Evert’s record of seven women’s singles titles at Roland Garros. Appropriately, it was Evert and Martina Navratilova who presented the Suzanne Lenglen trophy to the new queen of clay.

Now the big question is, can Swiatek become the Queen of Clay and establish unparalleled dominance on the red dirt like her idol Rafael Nadal? The Spaniard has won an unprecedented 14 Roland Garros titles, which is eight more than second-placed Bjorn Borg, who has six titles.

The answer to this question can’t be given at the moment, but the good thing is that Swiatek idolizes and follows the right person for this feat. If she continues to dominate the WTA tour and maintains an injury-free career (which wasn’t the case with Nadal), she can easily win at least 10 Roland Garros titles. She is only 23 and has many years ahead of her.
