Iga Swiatek has eased any worries about her fitness before the Australian Open. The World No.2 had a busy schedule, leading Poland to its second straight United Cup final. Along the way, she earned four wins, including tough matches against Karolina Muchova, Katie Boulter, and Elena Rybakina.
In the final, Swiatek fell to Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-4 in a hard-fought match. Team USA won the tie 2-0, claiming their second United Cup title. Swiatek needed two rare medical timeouts for leg issues during the event. The first was in her marathon match against Boulter, and the second came while playing Gauff.
Well, taping wasn’t a different leg, but nothing happened really. Like, I was just tired. You know, the volume at the beginning of the tournament especially has been pretty big, so yeah, but honestly, like, this really, it’s all good.

Despite the loss, Swiatek enjoyed the team atmosphere at the United Cup. Poland’s team included her childhood friend, Maja Chwalinska, ranked No.128. Chwalinska helped Poland earn points in mixed doubles and will try to qualify for the Australian Open.
Chwalinska also helped Swiatek stay relaxed during her matches. She joked from the bench and held ice packs on Swiatek’s head to lighten the mood. Swiatek appreciated having her friend by her side during the intense competition.
Iga Swiatek loses the United Cup final for Poland against Coco Gauff’s USA
Taylor Fritz and Coco Gauff led the United States to its second United Cup title in three years. On Sunday night, Gauff scored a big win over Iga Swiatek with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, thrilling the crowd at Ken Rosewall Arena. Fritz followed up with a nail-biting 6-4, 5-7, 7-6(4) win against Hubert Hurkacz. Their match featured strong serving, 30 aces, and only three break points.

The top-seeded U.S. team started their journey in Perth, dominating Group A. Gauff and Fritz continued their excellent form from 2024. Gauff had won the WTA Finals in Riyadh, defeating Swiatek, while Fritz finished as runner-up at the Nitto ATP Finals. Although Fritz lost his first match in Perth to Felix Auger-Aliassime, he bounced back with four straight wins.
Gauff defeated Swiatek for the second time in a row. She also beat her at the WTA Finals. This helped Poland finish as runners-up for a second straight year. Gauff started the season ranked No.3, while Fritz reached a career-high No.4.
Gauff has worked hard to improve her game. Adding coach Matt Daly after the US Open has helped her serve and forehand. These improvements were key in her 6-3, 6-4 win over Swiatek at the WTA Finals. They made the difference again in Sydney, helping her secure the United Cup title for her team.
