Iga Swiatek skips Stuttgart Open, to begin clay court season in Madrid

Post lockdown, the tour opened with hard court matches followed by the French Open in October. It is here that the nineteen year old teenager from Poland exhibited to the world her talent on the tennis court. Iga Swiatek lasted the full two weeks, and defeated the fourth seed Sofia Kenin 6-4 6-1, in the Finals, to become the first Polish player to lift the French Open Trophy.
This triumph some said was just a flash in the pan, it would be her only trophy, said many. And the critics got louder when Swiatek lost in the Fourth round of the Australian Open. But, the Polish girl silenced everyone by winning the Adelaide International Trophy. She defeated Belinda Bencic, 6-2 6-2, in the Finals.
Iga Swiatek will start French Open Title defense practice from Madrid Open
The defending French Open Champion announced that she will not be a part of the WTA 500 event in Stuttgart. The world no.16 knows the eyes of the World will be on her once she steps on the clay courts. And that’s why she wants to be completely ready before taking the court.
She will start her clay court season in WTA 1000 Madrid Open, which will run from 29th April to 8th May, then she wants to participate in the WTA 1000 Rome Open which runs from 10th May to 16th May. Before turning up to defend her title in the most important clay court event of the year, the season Finale, Roland Garros 2021, which will start on the 30th of May and end on the 12th of June.
Iga Swiatek said, “Unfortunately I won’t play in Stuttgart this year,” Swiatek continued, “It wasn’t an easy decision but after a lot of discussion we decided that I need more time to prepare properly for tournaments in Madrid, Rome and Paris.”
