World No. 1 Iga Swiatek has decided to stop working with Tomasz Wiktorowski, who has been coaching the 23-year-old since 2022. While announcing the decision, she revealed that she will hire an international coach.
Under Wiktorowski’s tutelage, Swiatek won four of her five Grand Slams- 2022 US Open and three consecutive French Opens. During her partnership with the 43-year-old Pole, Swiatek became the first player from Poland to reach the No.1 spot in the rankings and also won 19 of her 22 WTA titles and the Olympic bronze medal in Paris. She spent 123 weeks as World No.1 under him.

Swiatek has not made an appearance in a Grand Slam semifinal outside the French Open since the 2022 Australian Open. The latest Grand Slam title Swiatek won was the 2024 French Open and failed to replicate her success in the US Open later after losing in the quarterfinals.
Iga Swiatek withdraws from Wuhan Open
Iga Swiatek is currently not active on the WTA Tour since her quarterfinal exit at the US Open as she decided not to participate in the ongoing China Open which she won last year. As she is searching for an international coach, she has deemed it best to focus on the long term by skipping the Wuhan Open as well.
Iga said: “After an important change in my sports team, I decided to withdraw from the tournament in Wuhan. I’m really sorry for fans in China and those who wait to see me play, but I hope you understand that I need some time.”

Aryna Sabalenka, though she lost in the quarterfinals to Karolina Muchova in the China Open, will still pose a threat to Swiatek’s rankings after her Wuhan Open withdrawal. Sabalenka, after skipping the Paris Olympics, won the Cincinnati Masters and her first US Open.
Swiatek, however, is the most successful player this year on the WTA Tour, having won five titles and the Paris Olympics bronze medal. She hasn’t won any tournament on the WTA Tour since her fourth French Open victory. The five-time Grand Slam champion is 54/7 on the season.
