Iga Swiatek has won 26 matches this season but has failed to either reach a final or win a title. Despite her mind-blowing record, losing critical matches in tournaments has seen outlets report that the World No.2 may skip the grass-court season. She has revealed that she isn’t thinking about not playing at the 2025 Wimbledon Championship.

Swiatek has not won any titles since last year’s French Open. The World No.2 has reached four semi-finals this season but has lost all. But despite her poor run, she was still placed as a favorite to win clay tournaments due to her incredible record on the surface. However, she hasn’t performed as expected.

In her first clay tournament this year, she lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the quarter-finals, extending her losing record to 0-6 against the Latvian star. At the Madrid Open, she struggled from the second round but managed to reach the semi-finals. Against Coco Gauff in the last four, she was dismantled by the American, losing 1-6, 1-6.

After that, a Polish outlet reported that Swiatek was considering skipping the grass-court season to prepare for the US Open in August. During Swiatek’s press conference in Rome, she revealed that the story was false and that she would play at the Wimbledon Championship.

I don’t get it. There are so many theories right now I would say especially in Polish media about me that are not true. I think, I don’t know, you guys like to make some articles that will attract people. I get it. It’s part of the job. But yeah, for sure I’m not going to skip Wimbledon. I really want to learn how to play on grass better. Every year is another opportunity. I will play Wimbledon, for sure, unless I get injured.

Swiatek’s best run at the Wimbledon Championship was reaching the quarter-finals in 2023 before losing to Elina Svitolina. Last year, she crashed out in the third round after losing to Yulia Putintseva.

Iga Swiatek says perfectionism has made her struggle on the court this season

Iga Swiatek has always played near-perfect tennis on clay. The former World No.1 has won 105 clay matches, which is more than any current WTA player. She has also won four French Open titles. During the aforementioned press conference, she revealed that her aim to be perfect has also led to her struggle on the court.

This year I feel like I am struggling a bit more with my perfectionism. I have a love-and-hate relationship with my perfectionism. These clay court tournaments, I just try to reflect on how I see my game and how I also saw previous seasons. The thing is, I only remember the good stuff because I was winning titles and everything. I’m making decisions that are not really good at the moment because I just remember how it felt in previous tournaments.

Swiatek was heavily criticized for her display against Coco Gauff in the semi-finals of the Madrid Open. The Polish star’s poor forehand and serve let Gauff control the match from start to finish.

Iga Swiatek faces easy opening rounds draw at the Italian Open

Iga Swiatek will kick off her Italian Open title defense in the second round after earning a first-round bye. She will play the winner between Elina Avanesyan and Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round. After that, she will likely face Danielle Collins or Polina Kudermetova. In the round of 16, she’s projected to play either Elina Svitolina or Liudmila Samsonova.

So far, Swiatek has a one-sided record against all of the aforementioned potential opponents. However, the quarter-finals get tougher for Swiatek, with a potential matchup against Madison Keys or Paula Badosa. If she advances to the semi-final, she could face either Jessica Pegula or Jelena Ostapenko.
