Raducanu, who progressed to the third round at Melbourne Park for the first time, was confident about playing her best tennis. Though the result was quite disappointing, she at least will have to get satisfied by the improvement of her ranking.

Swiatek, on the other hand, can reclaim her No.1 ranking if the two-time defending champion Aryna Sabalenka fails to reach the semifinals.

The win over Emma Raducanu will now give more confidence to the World No. 2 to go for her first Australian Open trophy.

I just enjoyed playing. I hit a few shots where I thought after, ‘This is what I practice for.’ To play these kind of shots. That’s why I really enjoyed today’s match. I felt pretty confident. At the end, I could push her even more. Converting all those break points as well was important. I’m happy with today’s performance.

Swiatek will lock horns with lucky loser Eva Lys, who reached the fourth round of a Grand Slam event for the first time. The 23-year-old from Germany eased past Kimberly Birrell in the first round before playing two three-setters in the previous round.

In the third round, she came from a set down to beat Jaqueline Cristian 4-6, 6-3, 6-3. Following the win, Lys also became the first lucky loser to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open since 1988. Swiatek has never faced a defeat to a player ranked outside the Top 50 since 2023 Wimbledon.
