In the second round of the Australian Open 2025, Iga Swiatek faced Rebecca Sramkova, an opponent she played against for the first time. She enjoyed a smooth victory over the Slovak, with a bagel in the first set. Later in the day Swiatek attended the Australian Open press conference.

In this conference, along with the usual press, young fans also got the chance to interact with the World No. 2. One child asked the five-time Grand Slam champion about her most embarrassing moment on the court. In response, Swiatek recounted two specific incidents that stood out to her.

Iga Swiatek is known to be very candid about poignant and emotional moments of her life. Answering the young fan’s question, she said that she had experienced moments of distress during competitions, where she found herself crying on court. She described an instance where she cried for an extended period, specifically for about ten minutes. ​

I cried a lot of times. Yeah, it was a little embarrassing. I cried for ten minutes in one match, I think. I couldn’t play tennis, you know. I also walked onto the court once at Indian Wells with toilet paper stuck to my leg over my skirt. That was also very embarrassing.

Swiatek acknowledged that this moment was somewhat embarrassing. It impacted her ability to focus on the match, as she felt overwhelmed and unable to play at her best. She also recalled a particularly humorous yet embarrassing episode from a match in Indiana Wells wherein she walked onto the court with toilet paper stuck to her leg over her skirt.

Iga Swiatek’s 2025 season so far

Iga Swiatek started off her 2025 season with the United Cup. She played a pivotal role in leading Poland to the finals of the 2025 United Cup. Despite a strong performance in the final against the United States, Swiatek faced defeat from World No. 3 Coco Gauff.

The World No. 2 then moved on to her next tournament of the season- the Australian Open 2025. In the first round match of this Grand Slam, Iga Swiatek faced Czech Katerina Siniakova and secured a 6-3, 6-4 win. Advancing to the second round, Swiatek delivered a dominant performance against Rebecca Sramkova.

Swiatek will next face Emma Raducanu in the third round match on 18th January. Swiatek and Raducanu have faced each other thrice prior to this, with Swiatek leading their head-to-head 3-0. Their encounters include two matches on clay courts and one on hard court.
