Women’s World No. 1 Iga Swiatek was full of praise for Scottish legend Andy Murray on his Wimbledon farewell. The three-time Grand Slam champion Murray competed in Men’s Doubles with his brother Jamie on Thursday.

Swiatek was joined by former World No. 1s Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, and John McEnroe in applauding Murray’s legendary career. Additionally, the five-time Grand Slam champion shared a tweet describing what the two-time Wimbledon champion means to women’s tennis.

Murray suffered a devastating back injury at Queen’s Club Championships, which persisted until the Wimbledon draws were announced. Though he initially denied reports of withdrawing from SW19, he eventually pulled out of Men’s Singles on Tuesday.

Subsequently, he made himself available for Men’s Doubles with Jamie and Mixed Doubles with Emma Raducanu. With his men’s doubles schedule completed, the former World No. 1 will now focus on his mixed doubles match scheduled for Saturday.

Iga Swiatek soars through a comfortable straight-set win over Petra Martic

Top seed Iga Swiatek comfortably defeated Petra Martic 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of Wimbledon. This win brings the Polish star’s winning streak to 20, as she hasn’t lost since April.

Swiatek is the first World No.1 since Serena Williams in 2014-2015 to win over 20 straight matches. The top seed plays Yulia Putintseva next, aiming for the Round of 16. She has a perfect 4-0 record against her third-round opponent.

Ashleigh Barty was in the stands watching Swiatek’s brilliance. The WTA legend has been an inspiration to the Pole, and Swiatek has always credited Barty for inspiring her game.

The World No.1 secured her 10th Grand Slam win this year due to two crucial breaks in the match. In the first set, Swiatek broke Martic with strong forehands after exchanging holds till the tail end of it. In the second set, Swiatek faced challenges but refocused to break Martic again to go ahead 5-3 and close out the match.
