The future of women’s tennis looks safe with some serious talent emerging on tour every other day. And without a doubt, Naomi Osaka is the front runner of that pack. She has won 4 grand slams till date at a young age of 23. Her compatriot and dear friend, Iga Swiatek is also the one to lookout for. She won the 2020 French Open as a teenager without dropping a set.
The two young stars have only met each other once on a tennis court, the 2019 Rogers Cup, with the Japanese winning in straight sets. At that point in time, Naomi had already won two grand slams and the Pole considered the Japanese as a celebrity.
“I’m still new here, so I’m not used to talking to celebrities. I know she’s a human being and she’s great. I’ve seen her other side, really down to earth. But still it’s a little weird for me and I have to adjust,” Swiatek said in the 2019 interview.
Iga Swiatek is star strucked by Naomi Osaka
Recently, Swiatek shared a post on her social media of herself with a ‘Naomi Osaka‘ cutout. This was at the Madrid Open press conference, where Swiatek is the 14th seed.
To the Pole’s post on twitter, Osaka responded in a quirky manner. “Lol did they just have that in the press room for no reason (emojis)?” Osaka wrote to Swiatek’s post.
Both Swiatek and Osaka are competing in the WTA 1000 Madrid Open event. The Japanese is seeded second while the Pole comes in as the 14th seed. Swiatek has won her first round match while Osaka will play her first round match tomorrow.
