For the past two years, tennis players have often used the hectic tennis schedule as one of the reasons for their loss or poor performance. One of them, Iga Swiatek, has been a critic of the long tennis calendar. However, she has made a U-turn about the issue declaring that there are positive sides to it.

Swiatek is yet to win a title since the 2024 Roland Garros. The Polish star saw her hold in the World No.1 position drop after she failed to win a title from June to October, which gave rise to her rival Aryna Sabalenka to clinch her place in the WTA rankings. It is appropriate to say that Swiatek has been playing well but only titles have been missing.

In fact, this season, she reached the semifinals of the Australian Open but was shockingly beaten by Madison Keys. She then reached the semifinals of the Qatar Open but she lost to Jelena Ostapenko for the fifth consecutive time in her career. In Dubai, she shockingly lost to Mirra Andreeva in the last eight.

The World No.2 is now hell-bent on getting back to the top in Indian Wells and has decided to change her mind on many things about the sport. One of them is the tennis schedule. She revealed that despite being hard to cope with, she now sees the positive side of it.

It’s tough because if you reach the final rounds, you hardly have time for anything else. I’ve learned to see the positive side of having days between matches; I think it helps improve some technical aspects.

Swiatek was given a first-round bye at the Indian Wells, so she will open her account in the second round. She will play Caroline Garcia for a place in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament.

Iga Swiatek believes the newly resurfaced Indian Wells court gives her an advantage over her opponents

Iga Swiatek is defending her title at the 2025 Indian Wells, aiming to become the first woman ever to win the trophy three consecutive times. The former World No.1 will hope that the tournament will end her long title drought. Also, she has more to prove due to her doping saga late last year.

During the aforementioned press conference, Swiatek revealed that the newly resurfaced Indian Wells court gives her a good advantage opponents.

I’ve been working hard this past week to arrive in top form. The court is a bit slower than usual on hard surfaces, it bounces quite a lot, and the spin I put on my shots is more damaging, giving me a certain advantage. The air is dry, making it difficult to play, but I know that if I stay consistent, I’ll have many opportunities

Indian Wells announced that the event had a new partner and would be switching from a court surface by Plexiclave to Laykold. It is the same company that provides the playing surface for the Miami Open, Canadian Open, Cincinnati Open, US Open and the National Bank Open.
