Iga Swiatek has finally reached a semifinal this year. In the ongoing Italian Open, she breezed past Jessica Pegula 6-1, 6-2 to schedule her semifinal match against Elina Svitolina.
Swiatek, who last lifted a title at the 2025 Korea Open, is chasing her fourth title in Rome, after her wins in 2021, 2022, and 2024. At the press conference after improving her head-to-head record over Pegula to 7-5, Swiatek was asked whether she uses ChatGPT or other AI tools to scout opponents, their strengths and weaknesses, and decide how to play matches.
First of all, I buy stats. I would rather use this pro tools that they are using because I’m working with, like, analytics. I get the service from them. I don’t feel there’s need. I don’t know who’s using ChatGPT, but I’m pretty sure top players are using the same brand as I use or other firms that are specializing in this. I guess they use AI for sure, but I don’t know how.
Four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, who lost to Swiatek in the fourth round, said she has never used ChatGPT in her life due to environmental concerns.
I wouldn’t honestly go and, like, search for the stats myself because you can get quite a lot. It’s the other thing, like, using just the proper information and not making too many, not like it being too chaotic on the court for you. I’d rather my coach does it, then he tells me the most important stuff, and that’s it. I’m using ChatGPT for other stuff, but not this.

When Swiatek was asked what kind of things she uses ChatGPT for, her answer was: “He’s writing emails for me sometimes.”
Iga Swiatek on rediscovering the joy of competition
The only time Iga Swiatek was challenged in this Italian Open was in the opening round as Caty McNally took the second set off her. But since then, all her matches have ended pretty quickly. At the press conference after her latest win, Swiatek was asked whether she has started to rediscover the joy of competition.

Yeah, if you play well, if you feel the ball right, if you are doing the right things, it’s all clicking, it’s easy to enjoy. Yeah, I am enjoying. There are tournaments that you enjoy; there are tournaments where you feel you play terrible, not even play, but you, overall, feel terrible. You need to kind of accept it can happen and kind of move on, work so you have opportunity to play good on the next one maybe. For sure, I feel good here.
Swiatek suffered a shock opening-round exit at the Miami Open and split with coach Wim Fissette. Later, she trained at Rafael Nadal‘s academy and soon announced that she had hired his former coach, Francisco Roig.
But despite the coaching changes, Swiatek continued to struggle. She lost to Mirra Andreeva in the Stuttgart Open quarterfinals and later handed the walkover to Ann Li in the third round of the Madrid Open due to illness.
Last year on the clay swing, the four-time Roland Garros champion failed to reach a final. She, in fact, played her first final of the 2025 season at the Bad Homburg Open and lost the match to Jessica Pegula. Later at Wimbledon, she ended her title drought with a double bagel win over Amanda Anisimova, winning her career’s first grass-court title.
The last time the six-time Major champion clinched a clay-court title was at the 2024 Roland Garros, where she completed her three-peat by defeating Jasmine Paolini.
