World No. 1 Iga Swiatek made a hilarious remark about the Italian Open trophy after winning the final against Aryna Sabalenka on Saturday. This victory marks her fourth professional title of the year, the most in both the men’s and women’s tennis circuits.

The WTA World No. 1 has bounced back impressively in 2024 after a surprising early exit at the Australian Open, where she lost to Linda Noskova. Having won the most titles this year and being so dominant, she definitely seems to be adding a touch of humor to her personality.

Hopefully if I am gonna win next time, there’s gonna be tiramisu here (pointing at the inside of the trophy)… no pressure, I’ll have plenty today in the evening.

Apart from her comments on the trophy design, Swiatek has been in the news regarding tennis scheduling. With the Masters 1000 tournaments now extended to two weeks, the Polish star was asked whether this was a good decision. Despite many of her rivals opposing the change, she didn’t seem bothered and mentioned she was recovering well. With the Rome title in the bag, she seems to be justifying her stance.

The World No.1 dominated the final against the World No.2, securing a convincing 6-2, 6-3 win to claim her third Internazionali BNL d’Italia title in the last four years, adding to her victories in 2021 and 2022. This triumph marked several significant achievements for the Polish tennis star.

This win marked her milestone 10th WTA title, adding to her impressive tally of 21 tour-level titles. Moreover, her success in Madrid and Rome in the same year places her in a prestigious league as the first player since 2013 to achieve this feat, mirroring the achievements of Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams in that memorable season.
