Over the past 24 hours, the basketball world has really taken off. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, the Dallas Mavericks are dealing Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. This is in exchange for Anthony Davis and other considerations. It’s safe to say that no one saw this move coming, leaving everyone, including Doncic stunned.

Doncic did not quickly react to this decision, but took his time to process it. After the Lakers’ official handle posted the news, Doncic quoted it with a ‘warm message.’ Doncic made his intentions clear on X, stating that his ‘goal’ is to win championships.

Grateful for this amazing opportunity. Basketball means everything to me, and no matter where I play the game, I’ll do so with the same joy, passion and goal – to win championships.

In addition to this, Doncic also replied to the Mavs fans in a heart-warming post.

I thought I’d spend my career here and I wanted so badly to bring you a championship. The love and support you all have given me is more than I could have ever dreamed of. For a young kid from Slovenia coming to the U.S. for the first time, you made North Texas feel like home.

Aside from this, Charania reported that in exchange for Davis, Max Christie, and their own 2029 first-round selection, the Lakers will get Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris. The squad will also see the Utah Jazz stepping in as a facilitator. This was in acquiring Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2025 Clippers 2nd round selection, and the Mavericks’ 2025 2nd round pick.

Even though Doncic is currently healing from his injuries, he will soon join the Lakers and form a powerful tandem with LeBron James, who is 40 years old. On the other hand, Anthony Davis will be in a 1-2 combo alongside Kyrie Irving and the Mavs’ horde of shooters. It seems to be a win-win trade deal for all the parties involved.

Mavs’ GM Nico Harrison and HC Jason Kidd react to Luka Doncic trade

After trading away franchise star Luka Doncic, Dallas Mavericks GM Nico Harrison and HC Jason Kidd addressed the consequences and faced the media on Sunday. When it came to the ‘frustrated’ Mavs supporters’ reaction to Doncic’s trade, Harrison was clear about his words.

I’m sorry they are frustrated. It’s something we believe in as an organization that’s going to make us better. We believed it sets us up to win not only now but in the future. And when we win, I believe the frustration will go away.

Mavs HC Kidd also shared his views. The coach stated that ‘he was shocked’ but has been in the league ‘a long time’ to understand the depths of this deal. Interestingly, it seems as if Kidd was not wrong. Kidd was traded away in December 1996. This was after being selected by the Mavericks with the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft. It remains to be seen how the trade impacts them moving forward.
