The New York Rangers are getting all the NHL spotlight right now. With drastic moves and signing this week, the Rangers fans are going through a turmoil of emotions.
One positive news amidst the chaotic atmosphere is goalie Igor Shesterkin’s 8-year commitment to the team. The Rangers and Shesterkin stamped their relationship for eight more seasons with a $92 million deal. The annual average value of the contract is expected to be $11.5 million.
It’s the highest goalie contract in National Hockey League history, surpassing that of Carey Price. Montreal Canadiens netminder, Price, had the highest goalie contract of 8-year $84 million with $10.5 million annual average value.
However, that spot has been stolen by the 28-year-old Igor Shesterkin. The New York Rangers are yet to make an official announcement on the signing, but they are expected to make one as soon as Saturday.

When asked to comment on the signing, Shesterkin said:
Apart from this celebratory news, the Rangers recently traded their captain, Jacob Trouba, in a surprising move to the Anaheim Ducks.
The team has yet to comment on Trouba’s departure. Currently, they are trying to stay “positive” and keep their head in the game. The team finally won Friday’s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins with a 4-2 score after a victory drought.
Social media reacts to Igor Shesterkin’s $92 million signing with Rangers
New York Rangers coach Peter Laviolette called Jacob Trouba’s trade as the starting point of a change in the team. While the players are upset with their captain, they accept the situation and move on.
However, this move also made a call on how the organization can remove players if their losing streak continues. Although, goalie Igor Shesterkin can rest easy with his long-term deal with the team.
Fans on social media are divided on the current Rangers situation. Many called Shesterkin’s $92 million contract a overpay, while others congratulated him. One X user noted, “Holy Overpay,” while another said, “Somehow an underpay.” Check more fan reactions below:

Didn't take long for the freed up cap space (+$6.9 million in Trouba trade) in 2025 to get reallocated (-$5.9 million for Shesterkin extension)
