The main eventers for the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 card, Ilia Topuria, Alex Pereira, Justin Gaethje, and Ciryl Gane, visited the White House today. They met with the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who introduced the fighters set to headline the upcoming card. While doing so, Trump showered double champions Ilia Topuria and Alex Pereira with praiseworthy words.
Ilia Topuria is set to take on the interim lightweight champion, Justin Gaethje, to unify the lightweight titles. On the other hand, Alex Pereira is looking to capture the interim heavyweight title by beating perennial title challenger Ciryl Gane. With less than 40 days before the card, these fighters assembled at the South Lawn to face off against each other.
They also made their way to the Oval Office to meet the POTUS. During this interaction, the POTUS singled out Alex Pereira and Ilia Topuria, lauding them with some incredible compliments as he introduced the stars of the upcoming card.
There are no people tougher in sports than the people behind me. These are the toughest people. These are real warriors. When we talk about warriors, these are warriors… Alex Pereira, who’s, I’ve seen him knock out a lot of people. That’s what he does, he knocks out people. Congratulations. It’s an unbelievable career, wow. Ilia Topuria, who, they say, does not get tougher… Very special.

Clearly, the President, who has always been a staunch supporter of the sport, appreciates both of them. Ilia Topuria and Alex Pereira have been hailed as special athletes by the MMA community. They have shaken up the UFC with their unique styles that produce similar results, namely, devastating knockouts.
At the White House, Alex Pereira and Ilia Topuria will both attempt to create history. Ilia Topuria will be the first UFC champion to headline and defend his belt on a card at the White House. Meanwhile, ‘Poatan’ will try to become the only triple champion in UFC history by winning the interim heavyweight title. This win will also set up a meeting with the undisputed champion, Tom Aspinall.
Things are actually heating up as we head into these momentous matchups, with Ilia Topuria actually using his meeting with the President to play some mind games with Justin Gaethje. Once Trump was done introducing the fighters, the undefeated Spaniard asked him a question about his upcoming fight.
Ilia Topuria questions Donald Trump about giving Justin Gaethje the ‘toughest test’
Ilia Topuria is a supremely confident man. So much so that he chose to have a victory party for his lightweight title win over Charles Oliveira, before the fight even happened. Now, ahead of his fight against Justin Gaethje, Topuria questioned the President of the United States about his decision to give the Highlight an impossible challenge.

‘El Matador’ had an interesting exchange with Donald Trump as he revealed his surprise at the President’s apparent kindness. Trump chalked it up to him being portrayed falsely before Ilia pivoted to a question related to his upcoming fight.
Why did you want to give the toughest test to a friend of yours?

🗣️ Gaethje: "Because he knows that's what I want."

Before the President could answer, Gaethje chimed in to defend himself. ‘The Highlight’ claimed he got the fight because Trump knew that he wanted it. Then, the President answered by agreeing that he wanted to give the hardest test to each fighter. Trump then asked the UFC lightweight champion about his chances of winning at the White House.
Ilia Topuria replied in typical fashion by saying that he had “complete faith” and was “100%” going to win his upcoming fight. He finished by saying he hoped Gaethje had the same faith so that their fight could be amazing. Topuria seems like he wants to put on a show at the upcoming White House card and is taking Justin Gaethje and his unorthodox style very seriously.
Footage from his training camp has shown his training partners asking him to ease up on them. However, the Spaniard also recently pointed out the fan reaction to the Gaethje fight to highlight how the result was a given. All in all, ‘El Matador’ seems to be at his swaggering best heading into the White House fight.
