Although there are two-division champions in the annals of UFC competition history, there has only ever been one Conor McGregor. McGregor’s list of achievements took a boosted start as he concurrently held the UFC 145 and 155-pound championship golds. From there, to his one-liners, his riches, and his habitual hedonistic approach have made him “The Notorious”. The only one so far to graze even nearer has been Ilia Topuria.
Spanish-Georgian Ilia Topuria is the 10th UFC two-division champ. Much like McGregor’s own UFC 229 battle, Topuria wanted another in lightweight Dagestani phenom (Islam Makhachev). In the aftermath of UFC 317, the Irishman even divulged an iconic DM from a younger Topuria where he promised to be the ‘next’ him, and called it fair play.
Up until now, Topuria has been a staple from the same cloth. Now, this week, the Spaniard divulged breaking bank with $100,000 each way on a private jet, much like McGregor would in his heyday! The champ does what the champ wants, after all.
A private jet saves a ton of time…you go from economy to business, you never want to go back to economy. When you go from business to first class, you never want to go back to business. And it’s the same with a private jet — you don’t want to go back to what it was. Now I always fly private…$200,000 [on private]…A hundred there, [and] hundred back.

Topuria’s in-cage success is capped off by a one-of-one triple KO title campaign, starting with the not-so-fortunate Alexander Volkanovski. Consequently, his success shows, and his customized high-end home gym that went viral during UFC 308 “Embedded” Vlog is a testament to that. He is also the first fighter in competition history to make it to dual champ on undefeated stats (17-0).
Ahead of his UFC 308 PPV maiden defense, he also told the Webpositer Podcast that he has designs to be the world’s highest-paid athlete by the end of 2025.
Topuria has quite a few things working in his way. From his own MMA promotion, the honorary sport kickoff at Real Madrid’s game vs. Sevilla, to meeting the President, and even standing ovations on national television from the Mayor of Madrid and shows like the RadiogacetaRNE Sports. Topuria has done it all.
He is also on tap to break ground as a staple star for a PPV headliner in Spain. From back tattoos to stealing belts, to knockouts, to fame, and bucket loads of money; ‘carbon copy,’ anyone? It doesn’t really matter, as Topuria is poised to become an even bigger name. One name, though, ranks McGregor higher on the skills tier list.
Ex-UFC fighter gives bold take on dream prime Conor McGregor vs. prime Ilia Topuria superfight
Ilia Topuria is labelled another ‘Conor McGregor’ in the making, and there’s no denying it. He achieved his dual-championship feat with a ballistic first-round KO at the UFC 317: Topuria vs. Oliveira PPV main event. That, and a subsequent one-liner from the ‘Notorious’ mix-bag, got a reaction from rival Conor McGregor as well. He is the second such European style striker with multiple nations rallying to his title campaign.

The late Sinéad O’Connor made it iconic, singing for McGregor at UFC 189, live, during his walkout. Similarly, yet another celeb, Liga MX club Monterrey’s fame and football A-lister Sergio Ramos dapped it up with Topuria after his maiden defense of the gold.
The two have had a passive link and similarity of styles ever since the Alicante-Georgian burst into the scene. After winning quite a few of his initial bouts in way of submission, the crisp Topuria altered his style to strictly standup and has had immense success (7-0 KO/TKO). Ever since, a skill-to-skill comparison has been doing the rounds.
Topuria is also only the second man to snag both the 145lbs and 155lbs titles in UFC. So, a Topuria vs. McGregor what-if scenario, had both been matched around the same time, has become a hot topic. During a Hype FC press conference, this is what Tony Ferguson had this to say on the matter:
I was hearing yous [Tsarukyan] speak, on, on…that he likes to keep his range, right? Like, Conor is a little bit different of a fighter, Yeah, yeah…more elusive, distance management, …Ilia seems to be a little bit more of a counter fighter, you know? He clipped Charles as he was walking right into it. He has punches in bunches. [Conor] likes to wait for everybody, be poised. So I think if Conor was at the top of his game, he’s a little bit more rangy, carries a little bit more weight. I think, honestly, he would probably be handling Ilia.

Arman Tsarukyan said at the Hype FC press conference that prime Conor McGregor would beat Ilia Topuria😳

‘El Cucuy’ once trotted the same weight class and was often positioned as a potential next opponent for McGregor. He’d often say that the Irishman was hesitant and would never sign the dotted line. Notwithstanding that assessment, Ferguson has often lauded his fight IQ, spatial management, and punctuating shock KOs.
However, a current lightweight peer who defeated Ferguson is poised to be Topuria’s next title challenger. Safe to say, as his biggest rival who is ready to throw down, he even went a step further, saying in his prime, McGregor would have knocked him out with a hard left!
