Over the years, many UFC fighters have drawn comparisons to Conor McGregor and his unmatched aura within the sport. Ilia Topuria’s meteoric rise to UFC champion status naturally ignited inevitable comparisons to McGregor’s early dominance and charismatic presence. However, over the last few years, the pair has developed a fierce rivalry, marked by heated exchanges and escalating personal tensions.
In a recent viral video, McGregor was seen punching a guy in a crowded pub located in Ibiza, Spain. In the footage, McGregor appeared to throw two quick left hooks while the individual stood very close to him.
During a recent interview with Shakiel Mahjouri, Topuria addressed the incident and openly mocked McGregor’s behavior and actions.
Did you saw the last video? and then I saw it he [Conor McGregor] connect two punches and he wasn’t even able to knock out an average man like he connect two punches and the guy walk out like normal.
This isn’t the first instance where McGregor got annoyed and aggressively took a swing at a random man in a pub. Previously, he was involved in a 2019 incident where he punched an elderly man in a Dublin bar dispute. The altercation reportedly started after the man refused a free shot of McGregor’s Proper No. Twelve whiskey.

These repeated public outbursts have seriously questioned McGregor’s self-control, damaging his reputation and sparking widespread criticism across the community. Nevertheless, it was definitely a hilarious comment by Topuria, which quickly attracted significant attention and reactions across the internet platforms. The Georgian-Spanish fighter once admitted he used to get inspired by McGregor, but now considers him a drunk addict.
Last year, there was massive anticipation surrounding McGregor’s highly anticipated UFC comeback, which unfortunately got cancelled due to an injury. However, fans now widely believe that the ‘Mystic Mac’ is never actually going to make his long-promised return to fighting. As a result, the UFC is currently focused on building new superstars, and Ilia Topuria has quickly emerged as one.
Ilia Topuria plans to move up to the welterweight division
Earlier this year, Ilia Topuria vacated his featherweight title, aiming to challenge Islam Makhachev for lightweight supremacy. Their rivalry intensified with heated trash talk, as both fighters continuously exchanged personal insults and bold predictions across multiple media platforms. Makhachev eventually moved up to welterweight, which Topuria immediately accused as a cowardly move to escape their inevitable showdown.

Topuria publicly claimed that Makhachev was running away, further escalating their feud and capturing widespread attention from the UFC fanbase. Recently, he declared that he won’t mind moving up to 170 lbs to fight Makhachev. While many questioned this decision due to the weight difference, the fighter had his reasons.
Why not? That is my question. I used to train with people who fight in the welterweight division and I felt very good. We had very competitive rounds. I feel that I can dominate and knock out anyone in this world. If I go to the street and someone says something to my wife, I’m not going to ask him how much is his weight and how much is his height and reach. I will go all in.
Makhachev is currently eyeing his much-anticipated welterweight title fight against the newly crowned Jack Della Maddalena. The pound-for-pound number one enters the bout as the betting favourite, but defeating Maddalena won’t be an easy challenge at all. If victorious, Makhachev will still need to face several elite welterweight contenders who are eagerly waiting for their title opportunities.
