Ilja Dragunov is one of the most hard-hitting wrestlers of the modern generation. His wrestling style is unique and captivates fans with the way he sells every move. The Mad Dragon’s aggression and unyielding passion are what the WWE Universe loves about him. However, the same can’t be said about his own family, who, in his words, “hate” his wrestling style.

While speaking in an interview with Metro, the former NXT Champion discussed his match against Ricochet. He stated that during his first match in the King of the Ring Tournament, he landed directly on his head while selling for a move, which was a horrific incident for him. Ilja Dragunov revealed that his family was opposed to his hard-hitting wrestling style and that his 7-year-old son had not seen any of his matches.

Dragunov admitted that his son needed more time before they reached the point where he had to explain his profession. Speaking of his main roster career, the 30-year-old star was drafted to Raw during the WWE 2024 Draft. The Mad Dragon started with a bang by winning against Ricochet but was eliminated when Jey Uso defeated him. Since then, he has been involved in a rivalry with Bron Breakker.

I think my family hates my wrestling style. Literally, until this day, my son didn't see one match of me. He's 7, and he's going to turn 8 this year. So, because I know what I do in that ring, and I know how I do that, it would be a bit too much for a 7-year-old to understand. He's going to need a bit more time until we get to that point.

The former NXT Champion wrestled his last match against Breakker before SummerSlam to determine who would face then-Intercontinental Champion Sami Zayn at the biggest event of the summer. Breakker won the match, but the way he secured the victory was shocking, as Dragunov hit his head hard on the apron.

Ilja Dragunov will get another chance to win his first title on the main roster

After Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn and became the new I.C. Champion at SummerSlam, he had a target on his back. Many superstars are on a quest to dethrone him and capture his title, and Ilja Dragunov is one of them. He will get an opportunity to become the No. 1 contender for the title.

After the first two Triple Threat matches took place on the latest episode of Raw, the other two matches were announced for the upcoming episode. In the first match, Sheamus will take on the dangerous Bronson Reed, who has been on a rampage these past few weeks, and Germany’s own, Ludwig Kaiser. In the second match, Ilja Dragunov will battle against Dominik Mysterio and Dragon Lee to qualify for the Fatal 4 Way match.

Jey Uso and Pete Dunne have already booked their tickets by winning their respective matches. It will be intriguing to see whether The Mad Dragon manages to advance into the competition by eliminating Lee and Mysterio. He recently met with his old rival, Gunther, when they fought in a match in Germany, giving fans a test of what could happen in the future.
