Angel Reese’s fame has soared since the 2023 NCAA Tournament where she starred for LSU in their run to the title. She has more than one million followers on Instagram and close to 350,000 followers on Twitter. She is also one of the most sought-after athletes in college sports, having inked endorsement deals with Nike, Gatorade, and Beats by Dre.
Reese, who has a massive following on social media, was not pleased to see her blue check mark disappear on Thursday. She tweeted: “Wait why did they take away my blue check??” She also added a crying emoji to convey her frustration.
Twitter has shaken things up by getting rid of the verification badges that used to indicate which accounts were verified by the company. The blue check mark, a badge of honor for celebrities, journalists, politicians, and other notable figures, is no more. Instead, Twitter users can purchase them as part of a paid service called Twitter Blue, which costs $8 per month and includes other perks such as undo tweet, bookmark folders, and reader mode.
The move has caused a stir on the social media platform, especially among those who had previously earned the verification badge.

Twitteratis offers to pay for LSU’s Angel Reese Twitter verification
Reese’s tweet got over 1.4 million views and over six thousand likes, as well as hundreds of responses from her fans. Many of them volunteered to pay for her Twitter Blue subscription so that she could regain her verification badge.
Reese has chosen to return to LSU for at least one more season in 2023-24, despite being eligible for the WNBA draft. She said that she wants to repeat as national champions with her teammates and coach Kim Mulkey, who lured her from Maryland. She also said that she loves playing in front of loyal LSU fans and representing her school.
Reese is expected to be one of the leading candidates for the Naismith Award, which recognizes the best player in women’s college basketball. She is also likely to be the No. 1 pick in the 2024 WNBA draft if she decides to declare for it. Reese has a bright future ahead of her, both on and off the court. But one thing she doesn’t have at the moment is the Twitter Verification badge.
