Seems like the offseason break wasn’t enough for Ilya Samsonov and Linus Ullmark to cool off their rivalry. It appears like the Vegas Golden Knights goaltender could not forget Ullmark’s June remark on his goaltending capabilities during the Stanley Cup Games.

In a recent NHL Network picks Instagram post, Ullmark got listed as No.10 in their top list. Initially, Samsonov commented, “#10❤️” but later he went on to add, “November 21, keep your a** shut) or are you injured again?”

His comment spread like wildfire on social media platforms although he has now deleted the post. Many are speculating that he meant to send the second reply from his burner account but may have forgotten to log out from his real one.

Their rivalry was one of the best seen in their division. However, both have now moved on to separate teams and are no longer in the same conference. Ilya Samsonov joined the Vegas Golden Knights, while Linus Ullmark got traded from the Boston Bruins to the Ottawa Senators.

How the initial beef started between Ilya Samsonov vs. Linus Ullmark

The start of the fire between Ilya Samsonov and Linus Ullmark can be traced back to the offseasons, especially on June 21 when the latter joined ‘Leafs Morning Take’ podcast to talk about the games and future plans in NHL.

While discussing the playoff game between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins, Ullmark noted how he wasn’t impressed by Samsonov’s performance. He even wondered how the Leafs kept him as the netminder for the games, instead of Joseph Woll.

I was surprised that they kept Samsonov in for that many games against us in the playoffs. I felt that every time we played the Leafs and he (Joseph Woll) was in net, it felt like it was more of a challenge even though I’m not a player.

He even added how Woll seemed to be more in control of the game instead of Samsonov who was seen struggling. In the end, the Bruins defeated the Leafs in seven games and moved on to the second round of the Stanley Cup series. Both of them will face off once again on November 21 for the 2024-25 regular season games.
