“I’m a little bit strange,” says Rafael Nadal while talking about his ‘Rare-ability’
Rafael Nadal
Besides being one of the finest the world has ever seen with highly uncommon achievements, Rafael Nadal is also one of the many ambidextrous sportspeople and they are not as uncommon as one thinks.
Many cricketers, including West Indian great Curtly Ambrose who batted left-handed but bowled with his right. Current England cricketer Stuart Broad is the same. In fact, Cricketing Maestro, Sachin Tendulkar uses his left hand for writing but bats and bowls with his right. Women’s tennis star, Maria Sharapova joins the club too.
I’m a little bit strange: Nadal
It was recently highlighted at a golf tournament in Mallorca, that Nadal’s swing was right-handed too.
“I started playing golf when I was at the age of 17 or 18, and naturally I started playing with my right hand,” Nadal told Marca while talking about his ‘rare talent’.
“For me, it’s (the stroke in golf) like a backhand,” He added.
The Spaniard calls his ambidextrous nature a bit strange. Playing tennis is actually the only thing that he actively does using his left hand otherwise, its his right hand for everyday activities.
“I’m a little bit strange in all of that. I eat and play basketball with the right, I play tennis and football with the left. It’s a bit strange,” Nadal concluded.
